Such reconciliation finds a mention in the passage only to assist understanding regarding structural study of myth.

(D) outline the contributions of Levi-Strauss to the interpretation of myths
Levi-Strauss finds a mention only to assist the exemplification of the author's argument

(E) define terms which will be used in further discussion of myth
While certain terms have been defined in paragraphs 1 and 2, the definition can't be the primary purpose of writing this passage

2. It can be inferred that the purpose of distinguishing between parole and langue in relation to myth is to

(A) make it possible to differentiate among several variants of a myth
the differentiation among variants -- (only) the parole highlights such differentiation

(B) demonstrate the similarity between myth and language
while this is true in the context of the passage, use of parole and langue in relation to myth essentially serves to highlight differences amongst various myths and overall structural unity of various myths.

(C) illustrate the changing meanings assumed by one myth
Irrelevant answer choice

(D) distinguish between specific versions of a myth and the unity of all its versions
That's correct..The use use of 'parole' and 'langue' in relation to myth essentially serves to highlight differences amongst various myths and overall structural unity of various myths.

(E) clarify the roles of sign and symbol in myth
Such roles have been cited only in the context of 'language' , and not 'myth'.

(D) is the CORRECT answer

3. According to the passage, Jung's concept of "archetype"

Refer to these lines of the 1st paragraph of the passage :

Yet this very antinomy may lead us to a solution if we recognize the quandary as parallel to that of the early linguistic philosophers who sought to link sound and meaning in much the same way as Jung more recently sought to link "archetype" (a given mythological pattern) with fixed significance.

It clearly highlights that Jung's concept assigned the 'varying' myths a fixed significance / meaning.

(A) was inspired by the thinking of early linguistic philosophers
Not inspired, rather the Jung's concept drew parallels with the idea pertaining to 'language' held by the early linguistic philosophers

(B) invested recurrent elements in myths with specific meanings
the stimulus is in line wit the pre-thinking..Jung's concept assigned the 'varying' myths a fixed significance / meaning

(C) was a logical precursor of Saussurean structuralism
Out of scope

(D) was disproved by the work of Saussure
opposite of this is true

(E) can be used to study myth from a structural point of view
The concept was akin to the idea idea pertaining to 'language' held by the early linguistic philosophers..as regards use for study, such a conclusion is far-fetched

(B) is the CORRECT answer

4. The author quotes Levi-Strauss in the last paragraph primarily in order to

Refer to the following lines of the 3rd paragraph of the passage : -

"Myth," said Levi-Strauss, "is language functioning on an especially high level where meaning succeeds practically at 'taking off' from the linguistic ground on which it keeps rolling."

These lines highlight that the meaning of myth lies beyond its physical expression, possibly in a higher realm of understanding the essence

(A) stress the point that meaning in myth lies outside its mode of rendition
In line with the pre-thinking above ..CORRECT answer

(B) argue that myth is more sophisticated than poetic expression
such a comparison is not implied

(C) refute the misconception that myth and poetry are essentially similar
this aspect is not the essence for quoting Levi-Strauss

(D) clarify the relationship between poetry and myth
clarification of such a relationship is not the purpose behind quoting Levi-Strauss

(E) summarize the discussion of the similarities between the study of myth and the study of language
The author doesn't intend summarizing the similarities by quoting Levi-Strauss

(A) is the CORRECT answer
