Sets containing w: can be a set of 1: {w} 1 way Can be a set of two: {w, _} can be selected by 3c1 ways ie. 3 ways can be a set of three: {w,_,_} can be selected by 3c2 ways ie. 3 ways can be set of four: {w, x, y, z} 1 way Adding 1+3+3+1= 8 ways
