B. $45.00 C.$50.75
D. $55.75 E.$61.25

What is being asked in this question?

Total charges of company A: 575+0.04*575+82.5=680.5;
Total charges of company B: 530+0.03*530+93=638.9;

If we deal with company B, which offers the lower price, we can save 680.5-638.9=41.6 dollars.

A. $41.60 B.$45.00
C. $50.75 D.$55.75
E. $61.25 Looking at the values / percentage, its clear that Company X costlier than Company Y Just observed the OA; they have 4 distinct numbers after decimal point Total calculation of company x gives .00 + .00 + .50 = .50 at the decimal Total calculation of company y gives .00 + .90 + .00 = .90 at the decimal There difference provides .60 at the decimal; only 41.60 fits in Answer = A _________________ Kindly press "+1 Kudos" to appreciate GMAT Club Legend Joined: 09 Sep 2013 Posts: 15929 Re: The table above shows the various charges made by two [#permalink] Show Tags 04 Jan 2017, 10:15 Hello from the GMAT Club BumpBot! What is being asked in this question?

Approximate the difference:

X - Price 45 extra
X - 4% of 575 is 4 times 1% of 575 which is 4 times 5.75, which is 23.
Y - 3% of 530 is 3 times 1% of 530 which is 3 times 5.3 say about 16.
So Surcharge of X is about 7 extra.

Y - Installation costs about 10 extra.

So overall, X costs about 42 extra.
