HI, thank you for the explanation. One quick question, but what if the unit is 0? Then you wouldn't be able to find it out.

The units digit of x cannot be 0 because this violates both statements.

    (1) says: The units digit of 2*x is less than the units digit of x.

Now, if the units digit of x were 0, then the units digit of 2*x would also be 0. So, in this case the units digit of 2*x would NOT be less than the units digit of x.

    (2) says: The tens digit of 2*x is 7.

If the units digit of x were 0, then the last two digits of 2*x would be 2*...30 = ...60. So, in this case the tens digit of 2*x would NOT be 7.
