The total cost of a car rental at Company X is equal to a base fee per day plus a charge of $0.30 per mile. What was the cost of Peter’s rental from Company X?

(1) Peter drove a total of 25 miles.

(2) The base fee per day for a car from Company X is $50.00.

Can anyone tell me why the OA is what it is???

Using 1 AND 2, we can say

Rental(in dollars)=50d+0.3*25

Unless we know d, the number of days Peter kept the CAR, we won't be able to find out the exact cost.

If Peter kept the car for 1 day;

Rental=50*1+0.3*25=50+7.5=$57.5

If Peter kept the car for 100 days;

Rental=50*100+0.3*25=5000+7.5=$5007.5

Not Sufficient.

Ans: "E"
