The total weight of a tin and the cookies it contains is 2 pounds. After 3/4 of the cookies are eaten, the tin and the remaining cookies weigh 0.8 pounds. What is the weight of the empty tin in pounds?

A. 0.2
B. 0.3
C. 0.4
D. 0.5
E. 0.6

Tin + cookies = 2.....(i)
Tin + \(\frac{1}{4}\)cookies = 0.8......
subtract from (i)..
\(\frac{3}{4}\)cookies = 1.2.....
so cookies\(= 1.2*\frac{4}{3} = 1.6...\)
therefore TIN \(= 2-1.6 = 0.4\)

.8 is the weight after 3/4 cookies are eaten. Since there is no change in weight of can, weight of 3/4 cookie is 1.2 (2-.8)

Total cookie weight = 1.2*4/3= 1.6

Tin weight= 2-1.6 = .4
