I am not convinced with your explaination for option A.
For example: Ram will go to Bhutan because he won a scholarship.
He won first and then will go to Bhutan.

Ram will go to Bhutan as a result of winning the scholarship.
Similarly Winning first and then he will go to Bhutan.

Hence I feel that Option A is not incorrect because of the altering first and harming second logic you have stated.
Between A and C the only difference I can see is that Option C is more concise.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
Looking forward to your reply.

I chose A becasue I thought the parallelism in the structure might be preferable. I’d say C, aside from just sounding better, is more direct in terms of what the result of the climate change is. A rearranges the sentence unnecessarily I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?

I’d also be interested in case someone has a better explanation.

confused between A and C.. why is A incorrect?

When distinguishing between options, one must be clear about what comes first and what is the cause and effect (in these type of questions). Additionally, cause-effect questions are very common in all the sections of verbal.

In A:
It is passive. The order of cause-effect is flipped. "altering the environment harms the habitats"must be the right order whereas
In C:
Explanation is in right order and is active.

Sensing this difference in precision would be the key.
