A. "So as" is wrong
B. "and" divides the sentence, which is not required. and neither is parallel.
C. I doubt if grammatically it is wrong, but intended meaning changes.
D. Correct idiom
E. "In order to travel" would be correct. in order that is wrong, would changes the intended meaning
Hence, D.

Well C is no better than D :)

choice c changes the meaning as "luther changed his appearance to travel"(or say to xxxx like "changed to magician")

Can some explain the difference between C and D?
Is C wrong only because of the change in meaning? i.e, to travel represents the intention. He changed his appearance to do something.
Per my understanding, the original sentence tries to depict that Martin Luther changed his appearance for some intention. Does D then change the meaning?
