the final conclusion(If tree frogs had become extinct five years ago, as was feared at the time, this tape would not now be available.) is if the animal becomes extinct the invention of the tape would be impossible.
(C)The tape was designed by looking at the footpads of the preserved remains of tree frogs that had died of natural causes.
So, option C says by looking at the footpads of the preserved animal it was possible to make the tape. The invention of tape didn't stop with the extinction of the animal. This has not weakened the conclusion. I feel the option is D.
(D)A commercially available adhesive tape that has been chemically treated can be reused in much the same manner as the tape that mimics the footpads of tree frogs.
there is no dependency on the extinction of the frogs. Even if the frogs were extinct this tape serves the purpose of the mimic tapes.
