To critique a work of art based solely on the technique of the artist is like judging poetry based only on the number of words used.

(A) To critique a work of art based solely on the technique of the artist is like judging poetry

(B) Critiquing a work of art based solely on the technique of the artist is like judging poetry

(C) Critiquing a work of art based solely on the technique of the artist is like to judge a poem

(D) Critiquing a work of art based solely on the technique of the artist is like judging of poetry

(E) To critique works of art based solely on the technique of the artist is like judging poetry

Going by parallelism option B is the perfect answer.

The use of based on seems to be incorrect: based on appears to be going to either work of art or art.
