Hi guys:

Got 730, a score I would have taken before the start of the test. Was a bit surprised by the score as I assumed that I had messed the quant section.

Key observations:

1. AWA was fairly straigtforward and clearly understandable.

2. Got a lot of number theory questions in the quant section. Such as (not exactly the same questions):

a) What will be the remainder if 3^30-4 is divided by 5
b) what is the last digit of 7^95

..got bogged down by these as number theory was my weak link.

Did not get a single probability question - probably because I did not do as well at the start of the section

Would suggest more focus on number theory - divisibility, remainder, repeating decimals, last digit type of problems as it is difficult to use process of elimination on these.

3. Verbal was not as complicated as stuff I encountered in PrincetonReview tests. I managed to make up lost ground in this section

Lastly, thanks to you guys (especially the quant gurus!)

Congrats Shobitb 730 is a great score. It does seem like remainders, number theory etc. are very popular. Any books you recommend for that?

Shobhitb, great score! Wish you luck in your applications. If I got 730 I'd be arrested for disorderly conduct, I tell you that!

All the dudes, give me some advice on the study strategy guys - see my post in GMAT section. I've got 6-8 weeks to go before I write the exam.

Great score shobhitb.... inspite of what you think 700 is extremely good. What was the break down on Verbal & Quant?

Tapan22: I am not sure there is a lot of focus on number theory in the current set of books. Would suggest categorization of problems under number theory (such as divisibility, last digit, even/odd etc) and looking them up on forum such as the gmatclub. I guess the key is to have 'seen' enough variety of these questions so as not to get bogged down when one encounters them. Most can be solved coolly using plugging in. May be there can be sticky posted on this subject.

Gmatmba: I have currently selected Chicago, Yale, Kellogg, Ross & INSEAD. Maybe I will add a few more given the test went well

Gidimba: Oops! did not mention these did I? Dont have them at hand, just remember that my percentiles were 86 & 96 for math & verbal respectively

Professor, Giddi77: You guys really helped clear my concepts. Thanks again!
