car a = 24*20/60 = 8
carb = 45/60 * 40 = 30
distance = 30+8 = 38 IMO D

1st Car Speed : 24 miles per hour ; Travels for 20 minutes (1/3 of an hour)==> 24/3 = 8 miles Traveled
2nd Car Speed : 40 miles per hour ; Travels for 45 minutes (3/4 of an hour)==> 40x3/4 = 30 miles Traveled
They will 8+30= 38miles apart
Correct Answer is D
