I don't understand why B is incorrect "(B) known as an opponent of evolution on religious grounds"


Previous discussion is unclear and discuss how it does not modify correctly? Could someone please clarify.

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your question, "known as...on religious grounds" alters the meaning of the sentence; the construction of this phrase incorrectly implies that William Jennings Bryan was an opponent of evolution, and this fact was known on religious grounds; the intended meaning is that it was known that William Jennings Bryan opposed evolution on the grounds of religion.
