The issue is that
some should not refer to a SPECIFIED number, whether that number is one, two, three, or more.
The following sentences seem illogical:
Some of the tallest students are John.
Some of the tallest students are John and Mary.
Some of the tallest students are John, Mary and Abdul. In each of the blue portions, the number of students is KNOWN.
Since
some should properly refer to an UNSPECIFIED number, its usage in these sentences seems unwarranted.
It makes more sense to replace
some with the actual number under discussion, as follows:
ONE of the tallest students is John.
TWO of the tallest students are John and Mary.
THREE of the tallest students are John, Mary and Abdul.Quote:

However in the world of Critical Reasoning and Logic -- "Some" CAN refer to 2.
In fact "Some" can refer to "1" in the world of CR and Logic.
The rules for CR and SC are not the same.
CR18 in the OG12:
The flowers have traditionally been pollinated by hand, which has kept palm fruit productivity unnaturally low. While this sentence is perfectly acceptable in CR, it lacks a clear referent for
which and thus would constitute an incorrect answer choice in SC.
