Unlike X, Y is correct idiomatic usage, none but (D) uses it correctly, hence Answer must be (D)

Meaning:
1. Unlike Edgar Allen Poe
2. (whose poems have gained recognition over the years as portraying a foreboding tone)
3. Homer has epic volumes of poetry are valued more for the expansive tales they portray.

Edgar Allen Poe compared to Homer’s epic volumes of poetry

Comparison must between logical comparable entities.

We can compare sizes of tow objects but not size of object with quality of object:
Size of the blue dress is less than size of the red dress. - correct
Size of the blue dress is less than quality of the red dress. - incorrect

Edgar Allen Poe himself as a person cannot be compared to Homer’s epic volumes of poetry.

By understanding intended meaning of the sentence and finding out heart of the comparison, we can eliminate 4 wrong answers on solid ground, not even taking into consideration other errors.
