Hi All,

I was able to clearly eliminate option choice (A), (B), (D).

Can you plz share, How did you eliminate B ?
I eliminated E because it was awkwardly worded with a wrong usage of 'Being'.

First understand the meaning. here the intention is to present something contrasting. what is the contrast?

Although water is free, other beverages are not and passengers have to pay or those.

B says:

Besides water, which is offered free of charge, all passengers will need to pay cash for beverages during the transoceanic flight.

Now besides means "in addition to". So this sentece means that in addition to water, passengers will need to pay for beverages. So in essence this sentence means that passengers will need to pay for both water and other beverages. But we area also given that water is complimentary. So using besides will contradict the meaning of the sentence.

Hope it helps.

Hi All,

I was able to clearly eliminate option choice (A), (B), (D).

But I am stuck between answer choice (C) and (E).

Can anybody help explain the OA?

I picked E also.

I guess the reason that E is incorrect is because E changes the meaning? It omits the part about water being complimentary, although one could argue that it is implied by the main clause.

Also in E, "exception" is too far from "beverages". I think E would be correct if it went like "With water being the only exception, beverages require [...]"

Good Question...

Unlike water, which is complimentary, all passengers will need to pay cash for beverages during the transoceanic flight.

(A) Unlike water, which is complimentary : Comparing water to Passengers (Wrong comparison)
(B) Besides water, which is offered free of charge : Besides water is modifying All passengers (wrong )
(C) Unless the drink is water, which is complimentary : here we have a Dependent clause and then an IC (Correct)
(D) Not like water, which is offered free of charge : Comparing water to Passengers (Wrong comparison)
(E) With water being the only exception : Modifying All passengers (Wrong)

The imp. point in comparison questions is that the comparison must be logical and unambiguous. Between, C and E, E has some ambiguity. It seems that E says, that Water did not need to pay money, all other needed to pay. So, water = people? Therefore, ANS = C.

Imo C

This is a very good question so let just get on with the analysis .

A is wrong as this choice is comparing Water to passengers which is not the idea that the sentence wants to convey.
B Again B is wrong as Besides water, which is offered free of charge there will be something else that has come in the sentence .
C Correct
D Again something should come in the sentence to have correct parallelism with Not like water .
E This choice is wrong for using being also contrast is not correct .
