Re: Until the late nineties, Greenville had only one movie theater, Pop [#permalink]
Its A.

The reason is that most of the people wanted to watch movie at Big Movie theater but due to the lack of seats, people went to Pop Movie theater due to which their profit increased. If Big Movie theater had an ample amount of seating arrangement, its profits would have been higher than Pop movies theater.

Until the late nineties, Greenville had only one movie theater, Pop Cinema. When theater chain Big Movies opened a complex in Greenville, it was expected that Pop Cinema’s business would take a hit. Though both theaters played the same movies in the year since Big Movies opened, the average number of customers at Pop Cinema surprisingly increased. Which of the following, if true, most helps to explain this paradox?

A.Most Greenville residents started going to the movies only after Big Movies opened up; on most days, Big Movies attracted more customers than it could seat
B.The weekend rush is higher at Pop Cinema than at Big Movies, because of the weekend promotional offers that Pop Cinema has initiated
C.The average profit per ticket sold is higher for Pop Cinema than for Big Movies
D.When they received news of Big Movies arrival in Greenville, Pop Cinema made plans to increase their advertising
E.Big Movies remains closed on Sunday evenings, and Greenville residents who wish to watch a movie on a Sunday must go to either Pop Cinema or to theaters in neighboring counties

Paradox: increase in customers even after competition increase

Reasoning : overall more people started to go such that even after increased competition number of people going to pop cinemas increased.
Or something was done to make pop cinemas better while Big Movies didn’t work out.

A. Fits
B. Only talks about weekend, cant say why overall average increase in customers
C. Out of scope - doesn’t talk about the number of customers
D. Advertisement May or may not have happened, key word plan. Another aspect is advertisement May or May not result in increased customers.
Option A is much better than this option.
E. Due to increase in options if number of movie goers remained same the average number of customers would only reduce for pop cinemas.
Even if the competition is not working on Sunday’s.

+1 Kudos In case i helped
