Hello everyone! I'm a Mexican American male, age 22 who is starting to look at business schools and is starting to plan for them. I'm a Political Economy major at UC Berkeley and I predict that my GPA will end up being around a 3.2 when I graduate this coming year. I'm aiming for a 650 on the GMAT and possibly a 700.

I'm considering devoting my time to some ECs this coming year and am currently figuring out what type of job I'm going to get after college.

I've considered Columbia, NYU, USC Marshall, and Harvard.

What are my chances? Any recommendations to improve my profile? I'd appreciate all comments and suggestions.

get involved with NSHMBA early (national society of hispanic mbas). if you can get involved with your local chapter, you can apply to be a VP of your local chapter's board. www.nshmba.org

also, since you're still early in the game, i'd highly recommend you look into management leadership for tomorrow (MLT). it's very competitive to get in, but if you get accepted, it's a year long program that grooms you into a successful b-school candidate. many of the latinos and other URMs at top schools all graduated from this program (unfortunately, i was not aware of it, and so i did not apply). www.ml4t.org

another group to keep your eyes on is the toigo foundation. www.toigofoundation.com

finally, keep tabs on the consortium for graduate study in management (aka consortium, or CGSM). through the consortium, you are exposed to a large alumni network from students at top schools around the country. you also have the chance to be considered for a full tuition fellowship. www.cgsm.org

Wow, those are some pretty good resources. I'm definitely doing the Consortium by the way as a lot of schools I'm considering are part of it.
