E. who use a Doppler ultrasound device? a physician.

therefore, Doppler ultrasound device should be modifiy by a physician.............

I will pick E. All other choices have misplaced modifiers.

Using the doppler ultrasound device should be followed by the person who uses that device. Only choice E nails it.

(A) Using a Doppler ultrasound device, fetal heartbeats can be detected by the twelfth week of pregnancy.

OUT, seems to indicate that fetal heartbeats are using a Doppler ultrasound device

(B) Fetal heartbeats can be detected by the twelfth week of pregnancy, using a Doppler ultrasound device.

- OUT "using a Doppler ultrasound device" participle phrase modifies the subject of the sentence, in this case is "Fetal heartbeats "

(C) Detecting fetal heartbeats by the twelfth week of pregnancy, a physician can use a Doppler ultrasound device.

- This one actually is reversed. Would have been right if it were to say
Detecting fetal heartbeats by the twelfth week of pregnancy, a Doppler ultrasound device can be used by a physician.

So, C also has a misplaced modifier.

(D) By the twelfth week of pregnancy, fetal heart-beats can be detected using a Doppler ultrasound device by a physician.

- Out e explaination...

(E) Using a Doppler ultrasound device, a physician can detect fetal heartbeats by the twelfth week of pregnancy.

- Good PP correctly modifies a physician.
