Usual Vs is usual ??

The white ball is larger than <usual/is usual> for this game.
Do provide some detail explanation as to when to use which one?

I think USUAL is more appropriate. We modify an adjective LARGER, so we need another adjective USUAL. If we modify a noun BALL, in this case we need to change the sentence into:

The white ball is larger than is a usual one for this game.
