I am applying for 2014 fall session at US b-schools as mentioned in my profile. Earlier I had given TOEFL in October 30, 2011. (Score 105)
Now given the validity of two years of TOEFL score, I am confused that will this score be valid and can be used for my Round 1 and Round 2 MBA admissions?
This is an important question, and different schools actually have different policies. All of them say that the score must be no more than two years old, but two years from when? They have different rules. For example,
Harvard says that TOEFL tests must be taken no earlier than 1 Jan 2012.
Berkeley Haas is even more restrictive: the TOEFL has to be from 1 June 2012 or sooner.
These programs are calculating the two-year window up to the date you'd matriculate.
So this is a case where you'll need to research each school's rules very carefully. We've seen some schools that count the 2 years backwards from the round deadline, others from the date you're literally applying.
The good news is you did well on the test and so while it's a pain to have to take it again, you should be fine with it - and the EVEN BETTER news is that some schools are doing away with the TOEFL entirely. MIT Sloan has not required it for as long as we can remember, and this year Yale SOM has removed it from their requirements as well. If those schools are on your list, you're golden!
At least as far as that one test is concerned...!!!
Good luck with your apps!
