Back to the same question again, this question got me seething!

Who is subject of was?

uncovered a civilization a thousand years older as was the city Homer's heroes knew.

Is it Homer's heroes knew it was .....
Is knew okay with was since it's all in the past.

I knew he was not going to get into Harvard Business School.
Was is wrong in the past question in this post and the other because he continues to not get in?

c) older than was the city known to Homer's heroes.
Who is the subject of was?
A civilization was known to be a thousand years older than the city known to Homer's heroes.
Should be is.

I'll stop here, still lost like anything!

knew he was not going to get into Harvard Business School.
Was is wrong in the sentence in this because he continues to not get in?
