for Quant:

If A, X, Y, and Z are unique nonzero digits in the equation:

XY
*YX
____
AYZ

And Y > X, the 2-digit number XY = ?

A) 13
B) 21
C) 23
D) 24
E) 25

Answer is C: 23

because the question says Y>X, so it eliminates answer choice B.
start putting the values and looking at the value. value for answer choice A violates the desired format (13*31 = 403) (XY * YX = **Y). values for answer choice D and answer choice E are in 4 digit so out of scope.

Answer choice C is the correct answer

Quant:

Answer is C:

Explaination:
a(1) = 0 (given)
a(2) = 3 (given)
a(3) = |a(1)| - |a(2)| = |0| - |3| = 0 - 3 = -3
a(4) = |a(2)| - |a(3)| = |3| - |-3| = 3 - 3 = 0
a(5) = |a(3)| - |a(4)| = |-3| - |0| = 3 - 0 = 3
a(6) = |a(4)| - |a(5)| = |0| - |3| = 0 - 3 = -3

So the series is 0, 3, -3, 0, 3, -3, for a(1), a(2), a(3), a(4), a(5) and a(6) respectively. If you look at the series carefully, S(3) = 0 + 3 + (-3) = 0
this trend will continue and hence S(3), S(6), S(9)..... S(99) = 0
S(101) = S(99) + a(100) + a(101) = 0 + 0 + 3 = 3
S(101) = 3

Verbal:

QUESTION ITSELF IS WRONG. LOOK AT THE OPTOINS GIVEN. FIRST OPTION IS NOT THE ORIGINAL SENTENCE. ORIGINAL SENTENCE IS NOT AMONG THE ANSWER CHOICES GIVEN.

John was one of the few people [u]to get his hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months due to front man Bono’s back injury.[u]

(A) to get his hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months on account of front man Bono’s back injury.
(B) to get their hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months due to front man Bono and his back injury.
(C) to get their hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months because of front man Bono’s back injury.
(D) who got his hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months on account of front man Bono and his back injury.
(E) who got his hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed because of front man Bono and his back injury.

Question is wrong. I choose option C among the option given.

I understand that the question itself is wrong. The first choice must be the original sentence. In the question given above, if you notice, the first option is not the original sentence. Infact, the original sentence is not here among all the five options available.

Looking at the question and considering the options, I will go for original sentence.

Reason for choosing original sentence.

(A) to get his hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months on account of front man Bono’s back injury. "on account of" is awkward.
(B) to get their hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months due to front man Bono and his back injury. "front man Bono and his back injury" it changes the meaning of the sentence
(C) to get their hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months because of front man Bono’s back injury. Correct - "because of front man Bono’s back injury" A tour here is the sentence subject and we need adverb phrase but not adjective phrase.
(D) who got his hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed by several months on account of front man Bono and his back injury. "on account of...and his back injury" and changes the meaning of sentence
(E) who got his hands on an advance ticket for U2’s North American tour – a tour that was delayed because of front man Bono and his back injury. "front man Bono and his back injury" and here changes the meaning of the sentence

As has been told to you by Bunuel before: Do not post the answers on this thread. Answer ONLY on the thread of the respective questions.

As for the Verbal question, yes, it is unconventional. But it makes one thing clear - the given sentence certainly has errors. Try to find the correct option of the given 5 (and post it only on the Question 4 thread, not here)

the answer is C
1 statement says qr+qs=r+s
q(r+s)=r+s divide both sides by (r+s)
q=[r+s]/(r+s] in that case r+s cannot be equal to 0 or r cannot be equal to -s
otherwise we would end up only q=1 thus NOT SUFFICIENT

1 statement is clearly NOT SUFFICIENT
(1) + (2) together is SUFFICIENT to answer

Quantitative: question 5 (Veritas Prep 10 Year Anniversary)

I will choose Answer C:

Statement 1:
qr + qs = r + s
q(r + s) = r + s

most of the people prefer to divide both sides by (r + S) and hence conclude that q = 1. As per my understanding, GMAT does not prefer that way because it eliminates one solution. (if one does as this, one will miss (r + s) = 0 as answer)

As per my understanding,
q(r + s) = r + s
q(r + s) - (r + s) = 0
(r + s)(q - 1) = 0

either (r + s) = 0 or (q - 1) = 0. if (r + s) = 0 then q can have any value.
statement 1 insufficient.

Statement 2:
r is not equal to -s does not provide any information about value of q
statement 2 is insufficient.

statement 1 and 2:
from statement 1, we know that either (r + s) = 0 or (q - 1) = 0
but from statement 2, we know that r NE -s, so (r + s) NE 0

substitute this in statemet 1. we will get (q - 1) = 0

q = 1

sufficient

Verbal: question 6 (Veritas Prep 10 Year Anniversary)

I will choose answer option C.

In the question, if you look closely, the non underlined part has "the deer" in the beginning, and "would enable it" in the end of the sentence. The last point "enable it" confirms that the the subject "the deer" is a singular subject.

answer option A, B, D, and E used either they or them in the choice and hence can be eliminated.

The deer, despite having traveled hundreds of miles from their home to reach the Canadian wilderness and therefore being free to roam without fear of highway traffic or other man-made dangers, struggled to acclimate to the habitat that wildlife biologists had predicted would enable it to thrive.

(A) despite having traveled hundreds of miles from their home to reach the Canadian wilderness and therefore being free to roam without fear of highway traffic or other man-made dangers

(B) despite having traveled hundreds of miles from home to the Canadian wilderness where they would now be free to roam without fear of highway traffic or other man-made dangers

(C) despite having traveled hundreds of miles from home to reach the Canadian wilderness that offered freedom to roam without fear of highway traffic or other man-made dangers - correct as there is no "they" or "them", and not even "being"

(D) even after traveling hundreds of miles from their home to reach the Canadian wilderness where they could freely roam without fear of highway traffic or other man-made dangers

(E) who had traveled hundreds of miles from home to the Canadian wilderness that would offer them freedom to roam without fear of highway traffic or other man-made dangers
Quantitative question 7 (Veritas Prep 10 Year Anniversary)

What is the value of integer \(z\)?

(1) \(z\) is the remainder when positive integer y is divided by positive integer \((y - 1)\)

(2) \(y\) is not a prime number
I choose option C:

Statement 1:
Since it is given that (Y -1) is positive integer, Y cannot be 1 or lesser than 1. Y >= 2

for Y = 2, Z = 0 as 2/1 => quotient 2 remainder 0
for Y >= 2 z = 1

Z=0, Z=1 insufficient.

Statement 2:
Statement does not say anything about Z.

insufficient.

Statement 1 & 2:
from 1
we have two scenario: if y = 2 than z = 0; if y >=2 z = 1
from 2
y not equal to 2

so y >2 and in this scenario z = 1.

Answer choice C.

OA please?

Verbal Question 8 (Veritas Prep 10 Year Anniversary)

I will choose option E.

Which of the following best completes the passage below:
In testing for food allergies, a false positive result occurs when a person is said to be allergic to a particular food when, in fact, they are not allergic to that food. A false negative result indicates that a person is not allergic to the food when, in fact, they are. To most accurately determine food allergies, a physician should use the test that gives the smallest percentage of false negative results because ______________________.

(A)Some food allergies cause reactions severe enough to be life-threatening. - This may be true but irrelevent to the question

(B) None of the tests for food allergies have lasting side effects. - The question is not about the effects or side effects - irrelevent

(C) In diagnosing food allergies it is important to be as thorough as possible, since most people with one known food allergy have other undiscovered food allergies. - test is about finding the allergy only - other way to say the presmises.

(D) The proportion of tests that do not provide a clear result is the same for all tests of food allergies. - if this is true than there is no such test with smallest percentage of false negative results.

(E) All tests for food allergies have the same proportion of false positive results.
- Looks okay. if test has equal proportions of positive and negative, choose test which gives smaller %age of false negative.
