Long-term: Lead a multinational brand and have real, possitive impact. Why another MBA: my previous one was specialised in the Indian media and communications industry. With my sights set on a global role outside the media sector, an MBA that gives me an international understanding and exposure feels the most apt. Would INSEAD/Kellog/Yale (MAM) be realistic? Looking at 1-yr top colleges that will give me international exposure vs any specific geography. Any thoughts would be helpful! |

Not stellar, but can get you in. Age is on the higher side. Not clear are the following points: 1. how long has your overall work ex been; I am guessing 7 years 2. How was your performance in Bachelor's? 3. What kind of volunteering with International Orgs, and how long of that has been in different roles? 4. How would you tie your passion with "strategy consulting", and with what industry? 5. Tier levels & brand values of your college and grad schools? Depending on the answers to these questions, Wharton and HBS may be reach for you (or over-reach). INSEAD may consider you a little more seriously, but there are too many questions you have left blank. If you are asking these questions for someone else, deeper research may be needed. Instead, if you are asking this for yourself, keeping vital data of your profile secretive for a free profile-evaluation may actually be ending up in dis-service to yourself, wasting valuable time. Good Luck |

GMAT is on the lower side for most of these schools; extremely compelling stories can get you in, but I would think of them as over-reach for your profile. B. Age is too high for comfort. C. Your Planned Career Goals to pivot into strategy consulting are not in line with your work exp in creating and launching Marketing campaigns? D. Your Bachelor's GPA looks poor. Master's GPA is also on the lower side. College is also not high in rankings. E. ECs don't stand you out (in your current version, though in my experience with Indian Clients, I have frequently been able to tease out highlighting stories better) Work cut-out for you: 1) Align your goals better with your work ex 2) Choose schools in line with your career goals and your overall profile. Hope that helps. |

Good Luck Hello TheIvyLeagueEdge , Thank you very much for your reply. I am actually asking for myself, I just thought that adding more detail would make my post tedious. Here is complimentary information : 1. Current experience is 5 years plus few months, 6 years at the time of matriculation 2. The educational system here is different, my first degree was a master’s. But i was ranked consistently in top 5%, and my college is in the top 10% 3. I spent 5 of the 10 years as operational (doing what I was told to do) and the other 5 as a team lead. The volunteering work is basically organizing educational events for college students in Africa 4. As for strategy consulting, I work in an industry that is undergoing an tremendous change (green mobility : new technology, new energy,…) many companies will need help with this transformation and I think I can help Thank you very much. |

MBAandBeyond Thanks, Neha, for your thorough reply, I'm aiming for 750 +/- 10 pts on my GMAT hopefully that along with proof of my extenuating circumstances is enough to address my GPA. Another quick follow-up question - regarding ECAs is there an expiry on how long ago I participated? I was a volunteer first aider with the Civil Defense (kinda like the Red Cross) and even got multiple certifications between 2009 and 2013. Haven't participated since and my certificates are long expired. Should something like that be included or now? Many thanks |

Hey mm137, Thanks for sharing your profile. To begin with, 700 is an okayish score for the schools you are targeting. However, if you are able to increase your score by 20 points, it can maximize your chances. We would like to know your academic history in a bit detail as it is important to build a strong profile in order to compensate for your GMAT score. On the work front, 5+ years of global experience definitely adds value to your profile. However, AdComs are interested in knowing more about challenges faced, skill set developed, leadership roles held, and a brief summary of your entire work experience. We would also like to know more about your ECs and post-MBA goals (Strategy consulting seems quite generic). They play an important role in your application. Overall your profile seems good, but we would like to know more to evaluate better. Hence, If you’d like, we are happy to get on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances at top B-schools. Feel free to schedule a call with us at your convenience. Cheers! Neha Hadke Strategy Manager Testimonials Meet our Panel of Consultants. Hey BK94, We are happy to help you in every possible way we can. To answer your question, it is important to have active involvement in activities. However, since you haven’t been active for a while, you can justify your reasons for the same. Although, like you were involved in social causes, it would display your responsibilities towards society, try highlighting your major learnings from them. Contrary to common belief, ECs are not about the number of certificates you have; they are about what you do outside of work, which schools want to see in order to have a better understanding of your whole personality. ECs aren't about doing anything big; they're about what your hobbies and interests are, and what you enjoy doing outside of work. So, try to dig deeper and find answers for the same that will show your diverse personality. We would be happy to assist you with any further queries. Feel free to schedule a call with us at your convenience. Cheers! Neha Hadke Strategy Manager Testimonials Meet our Panel of Consultants. Hey tanviprad, Thanks for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. On the academic front, 690 falls on the lower end for the schools you have mentioned. Your GPA also wouldn’t help much. Any specific academic achievement may push you through. Alos, I would suggest try to add 20-30 points to your GMAT. Coming to your work experience, 7 years in the industry sounds good. Your profile clearly depicts career progression from a management trainee to marketing manager. I can also see leadership qualities and work towards social causes in your work tenure. Mentioning of your awards to the AdComs would help you gather plus points. We would like to know some more details about your work experience like leadership, impact to find out USP’s. ECs are an important part of an application and add value to your profile. I can see a variety of activities from a trained dancer to a travel enthusiast. Try highlighting them appropriately in your essays. It is impressive to see answers to why a second MBA. Also you have clearly defined your short and long term goals. However I do not see a correlation between your current work profile and your goals. I would advise linking your goals to the values of schools for a better understanding to the AdComs. To sum up, If worked properly, your profile stands a chance of acceptance, hence we would like to know more to evaluate better. Hence, If you’d like, we are happy to get on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances at top B-schools. Hey saket, I can see you have a great profile as you have completed your graduation with flying colours, so I have curated some points that you must consider: 1. Your high CGPA of 8.5+ makes you eligible for all the tier-1 schools in the world, including the M7 in America. 2. An engineering degree makes you eligible for all the schools in America since there is a preference for 16 years of education, and the engineering degree makes your education 16 years rather than the 15 years that would have been the case had you graduated with a general bachelor's 3-year degree. 3. I must say that you have a pretty good GMAT score, as not many students are able to score 750. So kudos on that! In fact, your score showcases that you have the required analytical acumen, and a high GMAT like yours will help the profile a great deal. 4. Regarding your work experience, those are an incredible 4 years, since the average work experience in a tier-1 school's MBA profile is 4+ years. Not to forget, you have that leadership element in you, as the universities expect a leader and someone for whom the leadership and management experience isn't new. Plus, your extracurricular activities and volunteer work make you stand out from the rest. Overall, you have a good chance, given that the profile contains all of the major elements that make it not only eligible for Tier 1 schools but also competent. Here I have created a personlised list of schools that will be perfect for you and align with your goals: 1. The University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business 2. Columbia University's Business School 3. University of Chicago Booth School of Business 4. University of North Carolina, Kenan-Flagler Business School 5. New York University's Business School 6. University of Michigan, Stephen M. Ross School of Business If you need more help, we'd be happy to setup a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target. Hey shahzenkhan, I can see you have an excellent profile and you also have international experience which makes it a plus point. I'm sure you have some intriguing experiences to tell on one of the major criteria that INSEAD looks for in applicants. For INSEAD specifically, you will be assessed on your leadership potential, academic capacity, ability to contribute, and international motivation. For your profile, I have curated some points that you must consider: 1. Your educational background from one of the top 10 universities in India makes you stand out and eligible not only for INSEAD but even for all the tier-1 schools in the world, including the M7 in America. 2. Given your GMAT score expectation of 720–740, you are a strong candidate. So congratulations! In reality, such a score demonstrates that you have the necessary analytical skills. 3. Indeed, your extracurricular activities and over 5 years of work experience give you a clear advantage over other applicants. 4. Your profile has that leadership element because top schools like INSEAD and others demand a leader, and someone with prior leadership and management experience is found to be relevant. Overall, you have a solid chance, given that the profile has all of the essential elements that make the profile not only eligible for tier-1 institutions but also competent. Here I have created a personlised list of schools other than INSEAD, that will be perfect for you and align with your goals: 1. University of California Berkeley - Haas School of Business 2. Columbia University - Business School 3. University of Chicago - Booth School of Business 4. University of North Carolina - Kenan-Flagler Business School 5. New York University - Business School 6. Hey BK94 I can see that you have a good profile. Your international exposure and GMAT score add more numbers to your profile, which the schools abroad really love. In fact, the CFA adds browny points to your profile by showcasing good financial consistency. Now, after thoroughly analysing your profile, I have compiled a list of important points for you to consider and need to work upon: I can see that your GPA is a bit low, so you need to have a good pitch as to why exactly it is low in the optional essays of the schools. There’s some lack of brand names in the experience part as you will be competing with lots of people from Deloitte, KPMG etc, so to tackle that you need to make sure to quantify your profile by putting numbers in it. You have a good set of extracurriculars and social experience and you can also highlight the number of people you have helped through volunteering. So basically, your extracurriculars and volunteer work make you stand out from the rest. Now coming to the school part, INSEAD is something you can definitely look at although it will be a dream school for you because of its acceptance rate. But I will recommend that you look at other schools as well, like: 1. HEC 2. ESSEC 3. ESCP You can also prefer some schools from Germany like: 1. Frankfurt School of Finance & Management 2. WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management 3. Mannheim Business School If you need more help, we'd be happy to setup a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target. Hey tanviprad You definitely have a credible work experience and a good profile as well. Elements of dynamicity and leadership experience are there. Then there's also an initiative-taken element, with good academic background. In fact, everything is sorted here and you can fabricate your extracurriculars a little bit as well, but the GMAT score is going to be a major issue. So with the kind of profile you have, INSEAD, Kellogg, London Business School, Oxford and Yale, are ultra dream universities, not because of the work experience, but because of the GMAT. So, I would strongly recommend you to re-take your GMAT if you wish to target these dream schools. There's no doubt about the fact that your profile is competitive enough for these schools as you have over 7 years of work experience, but 693 score, seems to be a bit low when the average is going to be more than 720. So, it's going to be very difficult for you to crack. Therefore, these schools at the moment are not realistically possible for you. An78w wrote: Hi All, I have been aiming at joining Insead for quite some time. Took GMAT & scored 710 (Q49V38) in the first attempt and 700 in the second. Now though I have always aimed at 740+ score, I want to connect with someone who can quickly evaluate my profile (on DM or Call) so that I can understand whether I have to necessarily reattempt GMAT for a higher score or I can apply to Insead with the same score (710). Don't want to land in a situation where I spend a lot of time preparing for the reattempt only to find out later that I should have spent the time on application with the 710 score. Looking for some help here. Posted from my mobile device Hey An78w I can see that you have a solid profile and 710 is a decent score. Anything beyond 700 is stagnating, so to give you an example, individuals who were working on their own for round 1, had a score like 750, and were working with a huge company like Deloitte, yet were rejected by Duke, Cornell, and so forth. The GMAT isn't everything, and it’s just 25% of the whole application. Everyone will have a GMAT score like you, but your profile will set you apart. It's how you'll pitch yourself to the school you're seeking. So, in that matter, I have curated some important points for you to consider: 1. Quantification and quality of the work experience, and extracurriculars are really important. 2. The score you have is definitely good, so you can try applying to round 2s as well with this score if you start right now with your application. 3. Rest, I would suggest that you don’t need to retake the exam because 740 plus is not going to put a huge impact. 4. Coming to the school part, with a 710 you can actually target INSEAD as 700 is the bare minimum, but it has a low acceptance rate and is on the same level as Stanford for the MBA program. I will recommend you look at other schools as well. Here’s a list: 1. HEC (France) 2. ESSEC (France) 3. ESCP (France) 4. LBS (UK) If you need more help, we'd be happy to setup a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target. mm137 wrote: Hello, I will be very grateful if someone can evaluate my profile for INSEAD/Wharton/HBS Background: North African Age 29 GMAT 700 (I wont be able to retake before R2/R3) Education: Master’s degree in general engineering from a top 10 university in Europe (degree complete abroad) Good GPA, ranked top 5% Work Experience: 5+ years of which 2 as a team lead, managing engineers of different specializations, all of the work experience outside my country of origin Extra curriculum : 10+ years of volunteering at international organizations, managed people from different backgrounds, different nationalities Post MBA Goal - strategy consulting Thank you very much Posted from my mobile device Hey mm137 We'll start with your strengths as you have an excellent profile. Your institution is in the top 10 in Europe, which is a plus point since the schools you're targeting are inclined towards brand names. Your academic consistency earns points. As the degree you're pursuing is extremely practical, academics are only given 15% weightage and work experience 30%. For MBA, job experience is key, and you have a strong one. That's another point. From your 5 years of experience, I can see you've worked in operations. Again, you must quantify this since the schools you're targeting demand business impact. You may emphasise leadership responsibilities like leading teams or mentoring others. Numbers matter. You can emphasize more on operational efficiency, progress, and performance. You have a decent GMAT score so no need to retake that. Plus the extracurriculars and 10 years of social experience can definitely be a highlight of your profile. If you don't speak French, you can consider an English-speaking nation, since local clients in France want to be consulted in French. Wharton and HBS would be a stretch, since both are on a different levels and need outstanding profiles, such as individuals with million-dollar businesses or NGOs aiding thousands. You may still seek that school as a dream, but admittance odds are minimal. By looking at your profile, I would recommend you to look at schools like: 1. UCLA 2. LBS 3. LSE 4. Imperial 5. Duke 6. Cornell 7. NYU Stern 8. Kellogg You can take up some courses related to the strategy and problem-solving domain. Instead of Round 2, I would suggest you strive for Round 3 applications the application process for the schools you'll be targeting is going to take a long time. (R2) I would also be grateful for any suggestions on other B-schools that would suit my profile and aspirations. Thanks in advance! Background: Nationality: Indian Gender: Male Age: 29 Language: English, Hindi GMAT Score: 710 (V38, Q49, IR5, AWA6) Hey avinashnair94s, Your score of 710 on the GMAT is excellent, but taking into account the educational institutions that you are interested in, I'm going to assume that you have at least five years of professional experience under your belt. You must quantify your profile. If you could include further information about your schooling, employment experience, extracurricular activities, and other aspects of your life, I would be able to cast more light on your profile. You may also discuss any leadership responsibilities, given the fact that you are 29, this is something that the educational institutions will most certainly be anticipating from you. If you have participated in any volunteer work, then that we add value to your profile. In fact, you may also mention any courses that you have taken. If you need more help, we'd be happy to setup a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.
