Hlx311 hi,
Shimri from ARINGO here.
From what I can see, you have great work experience. both moving from one good company and experience to another + every position seems like a promotion and "upgrade". Well done!
Yes, you are on the "high-end" in terms of your experience level. But I agree with you, that you could be perfect for the one year programs in the US or Europe. (Although, as you are looking for a career shift, you do need to remember that 1-Y programs do not have internships!)
Which programs? - in the US, Kellogg, Cornell, USC Ibear or Emory, in Europe, well, nearly every program is 1Y (yes yes, LBS, IESE and HEC are ~1.5Y, but most of the rest are 1Y)

All in all, sounds like you have a solid profile! Especially for the top European programs, but I would need to see your CV and hear more about you to assess your chances.

Happy to discuss further and perhaps work together on some amazing apps if you send me your CV and any other info to Shimriw@ARINGO.com

GOOD LUCK!

Hi Ayushii23

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations (I have already answered your profile request on another thread, but let me look at it again with a fresh pair of eyes 😊 )

My name is Shimri Winters, I head the strategy here at ARINGO (and am a London Business School alumnus and was helping LBS interview candidates to the school for 7 years…)

You have a very solid profile! Naturally, as you are taking the GMAT in two weeks, my advice would be “we have time. complete the GMAT first, and talk to me in two weeks” you will still have 2.5+ months to work on your apps.

From what I can see:
Academics – great undergraduate and GPA!

GMAT – well – let’s just wait and see… LBS’s average is 708… so 730-740 would be great

School wish list – well, this is up to you! but, with your profile and a high GMAT, I would go for as many as possible top EU schools: LBS of course, but also Oxford, HEC, IESE…

Extracurricular activities – I love both your hobbies and very happy to see you have some volunteering too?

Work Experience – Great three years! Tier 1 brands and especially strong if you can talk more about the M&A (And less about the assurance). I love the fact you managed people at such a young age! And the fact you have worked with cross-cultural teams GREAT!

Your career goals – less sure about this… not sure why an accountant would want to shift to retail? We can discuss further…

All in all, sounds like you have a solid profile and a good chance of getting accepted to some top MBA programs! But GMAT GMAT GMAT…

Happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps (but we need a GMAT score first!) Feel free to share with me your CV, GMAT score and school wish list and any other info to Shimriw@ARINGO.com

GOOD LUCK!

Hi Ayushii23,

I like your profile and you have high admission chances, but a lot would depend on your GMAT score. For LBS you should aim for 740+ :)

Your work ex is good and extracurriculars also seem interesting. Although international experience seems to be limited, it might be adequate to create interesting stories for the essays and interview.

I'm a little concerned about your career goals - they need to be thought out more, esp in relation to how LBS would help you reach them. But that can be done, if you do good research and introspection :)

I could suggest a few more schools, e.g. INSEAD seems like another good option for you, but before naming other schools, I'd like to know your personal and professional aspirations.. as in where you want to live/ work after MBA? How do you see your career building over the next few years..?

I work with several female applicants from India, and would be happy to help you too. :)
Feel free to email me at mail@vibranture.com

Good luck!

Hi Lekoben

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations
My name is Shimri Winters, I head the strategy here at ARINGO (and am a London Business School alumnus)

You have a very interesting profile! From what I can see:
Academics – great undergraduate degree. Terrible GPA

GMAT - Well, 750 is well above the 708 LBS average (and any other school’s average too) NICE!

Extracurricular activities – I love both your hobbies and very happy to see you have a lot of NGO and volunteering experiences?

Work Experience – so, sounds like this might be an issue, as the universities tend to count mainly your post-undergrad experience. But, in your case, I think you can explain, you were working full time and studying very part-time…

Your career goals – very realistic – moving from tech consulting to strategy consulting

All in all, I LOVE your profile. It sounds like you come from a very interesting background and I am sure there is a family and personal story there. then the fact you have lived in 4 countries and 3 continents is amazing. Add this to a super high GMAT, and great job. Plus volunteering? I am not afraid of the GPA what so ever… We, at ARINGO, have worked with many candidates that wither have low GPAs or GMATs, and we always find a way to overcome those gaps!

What is your full school wish list?

Happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps if you send me your CV and any other info to Shimriw@ARINGO.com

GOOD LUCK!

Hi PAULANKA,

Your profile looks good. Let me give you honest and step-by-step feedback. Academically, you have performed exceptionally good with some scholarships and certifications as well (though CFA level 1 would not help much) and I do not think there is a need to retake GMAT. Now, your work-ex. First, 8 years is more than the usual average but I would not say it a deterrent, though you will have the pressure of providing a stronger profile and convincing reasons to do an MBA now. Your work-ex quality seems good with considerable international experience (LBS weighs on it greatly) and good career trajectory. I am not aware of your leadership experiences and impact but I am sure 8 years must have some great and mature ones. ECs sound good (swimming is quite different) as well. For your post-MBA goals, "strategy consulting" is the vaguest and most common answer. I mean, this definitely can be your ambition but get the right story behind it and it must relate to your future aspirations. So, overall, I say you have a fair shot at LBS but I do not have many details of your work-ex, its quality and your story (the most important part, obviously). I am delighted to hear your story and guide you in the best manner I can for LBS and other great schools according to your profile. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Hi PAULANKA

Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations!

My name is Shimri Winters, I head the strategy here at ARINGO (and a London Business School graduate and was on their interviewing committee for 8 years)

To be straightforward – you have a FANTASTIC profile!

Background and diversity – there are very few Peruvian students at LBS and other business schools in comparison to the Peru population size = you definitely come from an underrepresented background (which is a great thing!)!!!

Academics – AMAZING undergraduate degree. Well done!!!

GMAT – 720 is above the LBS and any other EU school average NICE!

Extracurricular activities – nice sports hobbies. Would like to see more here! I like the volunteering throughout university too, but would love to see something more recent…

Work Experience – 5 amazing experiences, with the current job being the most interesting one, working with international teams on a daily basis. Well done! (I would consider taking off the 6 months experience, and keeping your CV “simple”

Your career goals – very realistic! Although I would connect this to Peru – short term gaining consulting experience or some sort of investment fund experience and long term coming back to Peru and founding your own Peruvian consulting services or some sort of investment fund? TBD!

All in all, WOW! One of the stronger profiles I have seen lately (and just goes to show that GMAT is not everything)
How can you improve your chances of acceptance and scholarships?
1. GMAT =-> 720 s great, a higher score will help for scholarships
2. Application -> right the best stellar application possible
3. Apply to as many schools as possible… (more schools, more chances, more (hopefully) scholarships…)

Happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps if you send me your CV and any other info to Shimriw@ARINGO.com

GOOD LUCK!

- Short term: work in strategic consulting in a major consulting firm (preferably in Europe)
- Long term: strategic consulting

I would also like to know what are my chances of getting a scholarship.

Thanks in advance!

GOOD LUCK!

Hi Shimri, I sent you an email with my CV. hope to hear from you soon.

Extra-curricular activities: Led my college's street-theatre club for 4 years. We were a group of 15-20 people who performed plays in public spaces and gatherings for awareness on social topics and have won 40+ accolades for the same.

I plan to work for 2 more years before applying

GMAT 1st attempt: 690
GMAT 2nd attempt: Tentatively 720 (Scheduled for 11th October 2020)

Honest opinions and suggestions appreciated. Also please hit the Kudos button :)

Hey KapilJohn,

You have a pretty decent profile.

You haven’t mentioned any details about your academic background so making an apt assessment here is not possible, but from what I could gather, you were a British citizen studying in India which adds an aspect of international experience to your profile. Even though you seem to have an average GPA, it won’t really hinder your chances as you can always negate that by drawing attention to your extra-curricular activities.

You seem to have a fair share of extracurricular activities as well. Leading a team for four years must have provided you with rich experience in leadership, project management, event management roles. Here, talking about such instances where you were able to showcase these skills of yours would help to establish you as a strong candidate in front of the admission committee.

You haven’t mentioned any details on your work experience, hence I would like to iterate the importance of a brand name in your profile. You’d be competing with the candidates from top-ranked schools and big4 companies in the world. But if you don’t have the name of a big4 attached to your profile, you can always rectify that by talking about your roles, experiences, major learning takeaways and moreover the motivation behind taking the position and how you bloomed into it over time. The accumulation of all of these points would help you establish the fact that you are no less than a big4 employee. Alternatively, you may also switch to a big4 company if you wish to associate yourself with a big brand name.
It’s good to see that you are targeting a GMAT score of 720 as it would authenticate your academic capabilities. Moreover, to further strengthen your profile you can take up volunteering activities, join a local club or take up certifications in the domain of the program you wish to apply to.

Given your school choice, INSEAD definitely falls under the dream category, meaning that it has an acceptance rate of 8-15%. Due to this, your chances of getting accepted into the program of your choice are anywhere between 40-50%. A better strategy that I’d recommend is to apply to a mixed bunch of schools from the dream, competitive and safe category.

Another important aspect that I’d like to make you aware of is your admission application. Admission applications hold 30% weightage in the entire admission process and not only serve as the window for the admission committee to gain insights into your capabilities and personality, but also as an opportunity for you to highlight your strong suits while simultaneously smoothing out the shortcomings by providing apt justifications. So please make sure that you craft an application that checks all these points.

I’d further suggest you to take our FREE Profile Evaluation to get a list of schools best suited to your profile to get an idea of additional schools you can be targeting. This would allow you to hedge your bets wisely and reap a fruitful outcome.

I wanted some honest opinions on my current profile for applying to LBS for the 2021 intake.

Extra-curricular activities: Nothing major, but
1. was part of film society in college (we organized movie screenings and discussion around movie budget and makings)
2. campus ambassador for a physics fest in my college
3. Volunteered in a NGO for 3 years and taught kids
4. Keep participating in chess competitions as well, never won any (but I have a decent rating)

Work experience:
1. Worked at ZS for >3 years with fortune 500 clients in pharma domain. Managed projects and teams as well. Worked on exciting strategy related project as well.

2. Worked at the Economist group for 3 years and managed a few global products for them and worked on exciting public policy and healthcare engagements.

GRE: 325 (156 V + 169 Q)

Target schools: LBS, HEC, Cambridge, ISB, Rotterdam

Honest opinions and suggestions appreciated

Hi Sahilkm,

At the first glance, your profile looks quite promising with room for further up gradations which will increase your chances of intake in the B-schools of your choice.

Your undergraduate score of 70.42% is decent but what actually stands out is your GRE score of 325 which is definitely an excellent addition to your academic profile as it will allow you to target most of the top B-schools in the world.

Furthermore, you have mentioned that you have a cumulative work experience of 6 years which for sure works in your favor and sets you at par with your competition. Though you can accentuate your profile further by talking about the kind of projects you were part of, what impacts you created from the same, what were your major takeaways, and what you were able to accomplish as a result of your own skills and strengths that you built throughout your work experience.

When it comes to your extracurricular activities, you do have a decent amount of experience in various fields and especially your stint at the NGO which lasted for 3 years definitely showcases you as a socially aware and responsible person, a trait of a great leader which is what every B-school is looking for. Moreover, you can enhance your extracurricular part by digging deeper into how you went above and beyond in showcasing your team working, leadership, and initiative-taking skills through which you were able to create a positive impact as well as you can talk about the takeaways from the same. For instance, you can highlight your participation in chess by talking about the various traits you derived out of it such as persistence and critical thinking power.

Most significantly, you have mentioned your desire to study in LBS, HEC, CAMBRIDGE, ISB, and ROTTERDAM among which apart from RSM (upper competitive), the others fall under the dream category schools, meaning they have a stringent acceptance rate which would imply that you have an acceptance rate of 40-50% at these schools. Though I’d suggest that when you are targeting masters abroad, you should always consider applying for a mix of dream and competitive school to hedge your bets wisely. More importantly, you should target top schools in each of the countries which will later prove beneficial for you in terms of quality job opportunities.

That said, In the competitive category schools, you can additionally be targeting schools like ESSEC, ESCP, ESADE, WHU, and FSFM.

All said and done, while you have a good profile, there will be thousands of applicants out there with similarly great profiles, which is why your application would play a huge role in enhancing your chances of getting accepted into your target schools. You would need to highlight your profile USP’s and how you can be a great addition to the school whilst posing the right examples to legitimize your claim. Additionally, you need to ensure that your LORs and Resume, equally depict the strengths of your profile.

A pro tip to further increasing your chances of getting accepted into these schools would be to apply as early as possible to leverage the first-mover advantage. So make sure you target the upcoming round for each of your target schools and begin your application prep without any further ado as each application would take a minimum of 10-15 days to be perfected.

Thus, if you’re looking for expert counseling sessions and services in the form of multiple editing, proofreading, and up-gradation of your application which consists of your Essay, SOP, LOR and resume that hold a 30% value in the selection procedure, you can check out our All in One service that has proven to help over 2500+ applicants get into their target schools!

Hey chirag95,

You have a pretty great profile,

Academically, you have a pretty good GPA, which showcases your academic prowess. Speaking of your GMAT score of 710, it would definitely work in your favor as it further illustrates your academic capabilities, allowing you to apply to most of the top colleges. While your grades do play an important part, your extracurricular activities and your other endeavors matter as well because AdComs are looking for applicants with holistically developed profiles. That said, your teaching and volunteering roles all showcase your strong interest in developing your profile holistically by highlighting your ability to take up initiatives, impact others and to empathize with other people. B-schools are looking for applicants that are future leaders and such experiences and qualities strengthen your application. To further improve your profile you could take up certifications or get involved in CSR activities to bolster your extracurriculars and build a holistic profile.

As far as your work experience goes, since an MBA is a manager's degree and requires significant work experience, your 4 years of work experience would put you at par with other applicants. In order to stand out from the crowd, you most certainly should focus on your leadership roles and major projects of your work and how these experiences helped to develop and further groom your skills and knowledge. Since you lack big brands in your work experience, you can compensate for providing an apt reason as to why you chose these firms, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took and any kind of impact created to showcase an equally competitive profile.

Moving on to the school you are targeting, I’d say you have a decent chance of getting accepted into all of the top schools. Since LBS falls under the dream category you’d have a 40-50% chance of getting admitted. Moreover, given the fact that LBS favours international, highlighting any international trip or work with international clients would help make a stronger application.

One thing to keep in mind is, Dream schools have a very stringent acceptance rate of 12-15%. Hence, it is always better to target a mix of dream, competitive and safe schools, in order to hedge your bets in an effective manner. To help you understand better, I’ve suggested a few schools that you could be targeting according to the different categories.

Dream : HEC , INSEAD, LBS
Competitive : ESCP, ESSEC, ESADE, FSFM, IE
Safe : EDHEC, Skema, Grenoble, IESEG

To increase your chances of getting admitted at these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application consisting of well drafted Essays, LORs and resume to back your profile. As a matter of fact, your application aids in setting you apart from the other applicants and has 30% of impact on your acceptance chances. You thus need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers and how you are a great value addition to the school.

On this note, if you are looking to target the top B-schools and want to prepare a strong application to meet the upcoming deadlines right on time, you can check our comprehensive all in one solution that has helped thousands of applicants get into their dream schools including schools like HEC, INSEAD and LBS!

Hello,

I wanted to share my profile and get a realistic review.

Background: Male: 31 years old, Indian residing in Poland

Education: Btech in Electronics and Telecommunication from the University of Pune (not so renowned college) with distinction (>67%) through-out.

Work experience: 9+ years in the Automotive industry (worked with 3 multi-national companies) testing various products related to Safety, and quality. Have worked in 3 continents India (the majority of the time), US (1.5 yrs), and Bulgaria, EU (~1.5 months). I led a team of close to 10 engineers and helped set up a team in the US during my time.
Quit my job last year and relocated to Poland with my wife who has been working here for the past 3 years. This relocation gave me time for some self-reflection and eventually I decided to start my own start-up which is pretty much on the same lines as my career i.e. providing test solutions and services to automotive industries. Have been working on this for close to 7 months now and very recently founded the company with few other co-founders.

Extracurricular activities:- Jack of all trades, master of none. I have been heavily involved in various sports such as Football, Cricket, Table Tennis, Snooker, Volleyball, Basketball in college as well as in my whole career. Have captained and represented teams in various events that have taken place.

GMAT: 720 (Q50, V38, IR2, AWA 5) -> I received IR 8 in my last 2 attempts. So planning to leverage that in the additional component of the essay (Would that be a good plan? Would college consider it?)

Schools: LBS, INSEAD, Judge, HEC, Said, IESE --> in that order

Goal of MBA:
Plan A- To get a good grasp on Entrepreneurship and go on and become a serial entrepreneur.
Plan B- To get a good consulting job for an Automotive client

LORs:-
Have a primary LOR from my manager during my time in the US.
Looking to get one more LOR from my very recent manager.

Let me know if any other information is needed.

Hey shameekv1989,

You have a pretty decent profile.

Starting with your academic background, you have a decent undergraduate percentage that showcases your academic capabilities. Even if it does fall a bit short, it won’t really hinder your chances of acceptance as MBA programs are not very stringent on GPA requirements.
Coming onto your work experience, you have an extensive work experience that spans over a decade. Your experience at 3 MNC’s is quite decent but your profile doesn’t contain any big brand name, which might be a slight drawback in your profile, however, you can always counter that by talking about the roles you took, the projects you led and how you grew over a span of 9+ years would establish yourself as a strong candidate. Furthermore, you have a startup of your own which proves your cross-functional capabilities as running a start-up requires an in-depth understanding and knowledge of various facets of business such as human resource management, project management, financial and managerial aspects, etc.

Moreover, you have plenty of international experience as well which highlights your ability to adapt and excel in foreign environments and broadened horizons and perspective due to such varied experiences.

You also have a fair share of extracurricular activities as well. Involvement in sports highlights your teamwork and team-building skills while leading teams and events establish you as a good leader with strong event management skills. You could further portray yourself as a holistically growing individual by highlighting any recent initiatives such as certifications undertaken OR CSR activities.

Your GMAT score of 720 is quite impressive and displays your academic competency. To answer your question regarding IR, yes you can add the justifications about your IR score in the additional essay and give apt reasoning for the fall in score from the perfect 8. But overall your cumulative and quant scores are quite good and would allow you to target most of the top business schools across the globe.

Given your school choices, IESE falls under the competitive category while the rest of the schools would be considered dream schools, which means that they have an acceptance rate of 8-15%. Even though you have a decent enough profile to target these schools, due to these stringent acceptance rates, you stand a chance of 40-50% of getting into the program. A better strategy in this scenario would be to apply to a mixed bunch of schools from the dream, competitive, and safe category.

These are the schools that you can target:
Competitive: ESSEC, ESCP, WHU, FSFM, Esade, IE etc.
Safe: EDHEC, Grenoble, SKEMA etc.

Reflecting on your decent profile, you can target all of those schools. However, I would suggest you apply in the upcoming round of applications as it would drastically increase your chances of making it into the program. Your decent profile, when complemented with a strong application that highlights your strengths and focuses on your academic and professional journey, will rightly help convey your fit for the school, thereby increasing your chances of acceptance.

As most deadlines are around the corner, you might be in a time crunch and must be looking forward to professional help to aid you in strategizing the right course of action for your application. Vikas213 hi
Shimri here. I head the Strategy at ARINGO MBA Admissions Consulting and am a London Business School graduate myself.

I am really impressed with your profile. great academics. really nice!!
In terms of your work experience - being an Indian male accountant at PwC is a nice solid career path (yet, nothing special). It looks like you managed to make the most out of it, working with UK teams and hopefully other international teams and clients. Your move and fantastic path change at Bharti (and as mentioned, you are kind of doing a post-MBA role, being selected for their Management Rotation program!) will really help to differentiate you! I love the fact you have already done three different positions which shows how well you are progressing in the company and receiving more and more responsibilities. well done!

Career goals seem fine, but I would dig a bit deeper and make them more unique and closer to the projects and industries you have been working on.

Add these factors to fantastic and varied extracurricular activities (both hobbies and volunteering) and I have to say, although your GMAT is average, you are one of the stronger candidates I have seen on this forum :)

All you "are missing now are some stellar applications (We can help with that :) and I am sure you can get into at least one of your dream schools.

Happy to help further with a detailed review and perhaps work together on some amazing apps if you send me your CV and any other info to Shimriw@ARINGO.com

GOOD LUCK!
