Hi Skiperzik You seem a nice fit for this program of HEC. About applying in R1, go for it only if you think you can present a good application before Oct 20, which I think is the deadline for R1. Otherwise, go for R2 as it will give you enough time to prepare applications and then for visa processing and other stuff. Your stats seem fair for HEC and your work ex, too, looks great but I would not be able to comment any further since you have not provided many details of the roles you undertook, the leadership positions etc. About your extracurriculars, I really liked them, especially that you have been part of an investment club in college which soon became a really big entity. You have had leadership positions and participated in some other interesting thing, which if narrated aptly, would work for you. What really caught my eye in your profile is that you have been involved in sports and community services. These can tell a lot about different aspects of your personality. One thing that I would suggest you is to bring the ‘quantitative’ qualities in your essays since HEC especially asks for it in this program. What’s going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story. If you’d like we are happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances further. Feel free to book our calendar as per your convenience. Cheers! Leadership wrote: Hi Russthemann .. I believe you have a good profile and chances to get into your targeted schools. HEC and IESE are considered top tier in Europe but RSM is on the lower tier. However, RSM focuses more on sustainability that might makes you incline towards it. I would suggest to research more on HEC and IESE through alumni network. What should you do to make your post MBA goal feasible from there schools because they have better reputation and strong alumni. IESE rounds are over. You should target S21 batch for which applications starts in Sep/Oct. J21 intake is going on for HEC and RSM. The next deadline is in August. You need to hurry up as an International student post admit. I do not know much about Canadian schools, so cannot comment on them. Hi Anonymous1994 Your profile is a good one and seems in alignment with the values of your target schools, especially the part that they all want clear and pragmatic goals and you seem to have those. Your stats seem really great and I think it’s fine if you do not wish to retake because one, 690 is at par with the average of all these schools, and two, you already are planning for Level 3 CFA which makes sense. I liked your work experience too, you seem to have good ‘leadership’ experiences in your work and that you helped a client securing huge funding can speak for the ‘impact’ aspect. So, overall a great work ex and, if narrated aptly and persuasively, can help you stand a good chance to these schools. Your community experience seems really great. You have been part of many organizations and that you still are involved in sports is impressive. About your post-MBA goals, both mentioned above make sense. But still, I think you will need to clear that out of all the options in the finance sector, how IB intrigued you? Also, for all these schools I suggest you highlight the following in your applications: 1. Global Outlook and ability to work in multicultural teams 2. Clear and Pragmatic Career Goals 3. How a school is unique in helping you achieve your goals What’s going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story. If you’d like we are happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances further. Feel free to book our calendar as per your convenience. Cheers! Hi all, Background and nationality: White American. Undergrad information: Average state school, 2.56 GPA in philosophy. GMAT: I took the GRE, 169/163. Through the GRE converter it says ~760 GMAT but that's clearly too high. Matching the percentiles to GMAT percentiles, it's around 730-740 I believe. Work experience and leadership: Have been an engineer at a top tech company for the last year and a half. No direct promotions because I hopped jobs after graduation and this is the first job I've been at for more than a year. However, there is career growth going from average company -> contractor at big tech -> engineer at 2nd big tech. Community and others: Created and was president of two clubs in college, one was more than 800 members by the time I graduated (sadly, for a video game). Have been volunteering with an education nonprofit for six years, looking after kids but also being a one-man IT and software department. Also a strong rock climber and have won thousands of dollars in chess tournaments. Have been playing the piano for nine years. Post MBA goals: Tech -> Tech PM. I have been building and racing miniature autonomous cars for several years and want to work as a PM in autonomous cars. I may have to work as a PM at a big tech company first and transition from there to self-driving cars, but the goal is self-driving car PM. Anything else?: I have some international work experience where I have to use French with one of my clients, but outside of a trip to Israel in January and a client in Canada, I haven't been outside the US in eight years. A huge appeal of HEC Paris is language immersion and international experience but I'm worried they're looking for more international experience than I have. |

Hi jmehler You have got a really strong profile. Your undergrad stats are slightly on a lower side but your GRE score compensates for it well (your GRE is even above the Wharton average). I think with this profile you should apply to some other great schools too, say, Insead, or Kellogg. About your work ex, as you said, you have been promoted to several levels in your career but I think you will have to explain the frequent job changes. Also, I would like to know more about the roles you undertook in your work to evaluate more comprehensively. I am much impressed by your extracurriculars and post MBA goals. They really are very interesting and different and provide more than enough for the ‘diversity’ factor that every school looks for. Also, they give a glimpse of your capability of taking initiatives and learning. About your doubt of international experience, it is more important to communicate well the experiences you already have. And even if you have not stepped outside of your country, you may have the global exposure that you are not aware of. Find if you have interacted with global clients or worked in a multicultural setting. If you have done these, you can put a strong narrative. What’s going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story. If you’d like we are happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances further. Feel free to book our calendar as per your convenience. Cheers! Hi searchmaster, You have got one great profile. If I am not mistaken, you are looking for MiM or MiF? Anyway, you are not eligible for MBA, so evaluating on this assumption. - For these two courses, you need to exhibit really strong extracurriculars, internship experiences, and stats, and I think your profile provides for all of these. - About stats, you already have great scores considering your targeted GMAT score. You have won many scholarships and I would advise you to highlight 2&3 of scholastic achievements you mentioned. Also, your subjects give a glimpse of analytical and quantitative skills you must have gained. - Your professional experience too is really great and I advise you to highlight the ‘leadership’ and ‘impact’ experiences in your work and also the experience and insights of the Academy of Management 2020 Conference. - Your extracurriculars are excellent and you have gained some global exposure from these which must add great value to your profile. Also, try to highlight the leadership experience of this ‘Mumbai Chapter’. Overall, a great profile. But I caution you here to not let work overweigh your personal attributes. Try to bring a good blend of professional and personal aspects in your applications. What’s going to matter most, now, in your application is how you connect all the dots and build a great story. Hi akhilvarma8, Thanks for sharing a descriptive profile for evaluation. On the surface your profile looks pretty good for HEC, I do see good glimpses of leadership, international exposure and diversity in your profile (aspects that HEC greatly stresses upon while filtering the candidates). In addition to academic performance and solid GMAT scores, HEC wants to see ambitious career aspirations and backgrounds. HEC looks out for a 'global career vision' in MBA applicants. With a score of 720+, you've got a fair chance to make it to HEC as long as you highlight the following in your application: 1. Global career vision 2. How HEC is unique in helping you achieve your goals 3. How you connect your narrative and career vision to HEC’s values While writing your application, make sure you focus on how HEC’s international scope, deep academic rigor, program structure, and access to a worldwide network connects with your goals and aspirations. In addition your ECs look pretty good too. In order to add further value to this evaluation, it is essential for me to understand your post-MBA goals. Additionally, make sure you list down the gaps that you have identified in your profile that you think an MBA from HEC will help you fill in order to achieve your post-MBA goals (and do make sure you tick to HEC's values through and through). What’s going to matter most in your application is how you connect all the dots and build a great story. If you’d like we are happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances further. If you'd like, I am happy to hop on a call sometime this week. Have achievements in terms of winning tournaments of Cricket, football, and volleyball during my schooling and undergrad days. Now I play for my company's corporate team Community Service: 1. Worked with Make A Difference as their Discover mentor (it is also one of the few NGOs that has been listed as the best places to work for in India) I understand there are other aspects to the applications such as the essays and the recommendations, however, I would like to know if these are the ones to be considered, will I have a shot at HEC's MBA program? Hey Shantanu, Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time and giving me your thoughts about my profile. Actually, I have already applied for HEC for J21 intake in round 3 (that is currently going) with the help of a consultant who was suggested by my friend. But I was kinda skeptical as to how my chances were and so thanks for clearing my doubts. My last date to submit my GMAT score is Aug 14th. I will surely get in touch in case I am unable to make it through this time around. Thanks once again ![]() MBAnBConsulting wrote: Hi akhilvarma8,
Thanks for sharing a descriptive profile for evaluation. Hi manvika94, I evaluated your profile for Booth and would love to do it for HEC Paris as well. I think I have already highlighted the key points in your profile. To give an elaborate evaluation of your work experience, I need to know more about the leadership roles you undertook or the impact you have had on your organization or if you have brought some improvements in the services? Also, I would want to know if you got the chance of working with some international clients or if you have any other evidence of international exposure since this one is greatly stressed by HEC (you may take some insights on the same here). About your ECs they are pretty novel like your involvement in the 'Read/Renew/Recycle’ campaign and that you are trained in Indian classical music. These can definitely bring some interesting conversations with adcoms, if highlighted aptly. Also, I would suggest you connect your narrative and career vision to HEC’s values. You are welcome to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your work experience, career goals and chances to some good schools in detail. Hi arpit2093, Your profile seems a good one. Your stats are great for HEC. Your work experience is a highlight of your profile and you should capitalize on it for your application. Since you joined a startup at an early stage, you have seen and contributed to its growth and you can bring a good narrative out of it. You have had a good impact on this startup as you simultaneously worked in various domains and have helped to expand the team and the startup (overall). The best part of your experience is that you have worked in different industries and worked on a varied range of projects. Also, you have many leadership experiences and I can see elements of international experience (of two different continents, you may build a story of the differences you saw in the two companies and the things you’ve learned from these international clients). About your ECs, I feel they are outdated and if currently, you have not been a part of any NGO or community organization, dig in deeper to find your true interests and what you do as a stress buster (something beyond work). Also, your post-MBA goals make sense but you need to explain particularly as which industry you want to go to (you may use your experience of the different industries to find one which interests you the most) and try to bring a ‘global’ career-vision, especially if you are targeting HEC. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your work experience, career goals, and chances to some good schools in detail.
