Hi, need profile evaluation for ISB.

I am a 25-year-old female currently working at a boutique leadership consulting and executive search firm.

Academic Scores:
10th – 10 CGPA
12th – 87%
BCom, University of Delhi (Shivaji College) – 8.04 CGPA

My career journey started at an expert network, where I worked closely with consultants and clients to identify and engage relevant industry experts. As a Research Executive, I conducted research across multiple industries and managed end-to-end expert relationships, gaining exposure to diverse consulting projects.

I later joined a US-based Private Equity consulting firm, where I was involved in commercial due diligence and value-creation initiatives for mid-market private equity clients. My work involved competitive analysis, operating partner searches, CEO and board placements, M&A roll-up mapping, market assessments, and stakeholder management. I received two promotions within 1.5 years, progressing from an individual contributor supporting deal teams to leading deal management and eventually owning a key client account with multiple deal engagements. Beyond this, I mentored junior team members on research and project execution and led the firm's AI adoption initiative. This included training colleagues, integrating AI into research workflows, and developing a customized AI model that improved team efficiency by approximately 40%, for which I received an award.

After 2.5 years, I moved into a more client-facing role at a leadership consulting and executive search firm as a Senior Associate. In this role, I work with leading consulting firms (Big4, Strat firms) on senior leadership and partner hiring mandates. My work involves understanding organizational growth priorities, identifying leadership gaps and white spaces, and provide support in advising clients on leadership talent aligned with their long-term strategic objectives.

Throughout my career, I have worked adjacent to the consulting industry and have had the opportunity to observe how it operates closely. Pursuing an MBA is a natural next step for me, as I want to transition into a hands-on consulting role.

For extracurriculars, I was actively involved in college societies, including a socio-economic society and the alumni relations cell. I also volunteered with the Women's Development Cell and an NGO focused on supporting underprivileged children.
Active interests in photography, travel, swimming, and content creation.

Would appreciate an honest assessment of my profile, including my strengths, potential gaps, and competitiveness for ISB PGP.

This is actually a strong ISB profile, especially for your experience level. Not flawless, but definitely competitive if executed well.

female + non-engineer + consulting-adjacent experience works in your favor for ISB. Second, your career progression looks good. Two promotions in 1.5 years, moving from execution to account ownership, mentoring juniors, and then shifting into a more client-facing leadership consulting role signals growth.

I also think your work experience is more interesting than it may initially sound. A lot of applicants say “consulting exposure,” but your private equity due diligence + CEO/board search + value creation + leadership advisory exposure gives genuine business context. The AI initiative with measurable impact (~40% efficiency gain) is also a meaningful spike and the kind of thing worth highlighting.

Having said these, Since your stated goal is to pivot into consulting, admissions teams may ask: Why MBA now? Why not move internally or laterally without an MBA?

You will need a convincing answer for this.

Also, your current role in executive search/leadership consulting could easily sound like recruitment/headhunting if not framed carefully. That would weaken the story. You’ll want to position it more around: organizational strategy, leadership assessment, talent strategy, growth priorities, and advising firms during scaling phases.

On extracurriculars, I’ll be honest, they are fine but not a major spike. Good to have, but your application strength will come much more from work trajectory, leadership, and narrative.

The other thing I would push you on is post-MBA clarity. “Hands-on consulting” is directionally okay, but ISB will want sharper thinking: What kind of consulting? Strategy? Org transformation? PE value creation? Human capital? Growth?

For GMAT target 675+

My profile is as follows:

Academics:

10th – 91.3% (ICSE)
12th – C Grade (Cambridge University A-Levels)
Graduation – BBA in Finance, CGPA 3.12, from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies
Post Graduation – M.Com in Banking and Finance from University of Mumbai
Professional Qualification – CFA Charterholder

Work Experience:
1. COVID Period (1.5 years): Assisted my father in managing his business, where I streamlined internal processes for day-to-day operations. Since the business was related to construction and municipal organisation projects, operations continued during COVID. Also, reducing accounting discrepancies and increasing efficiency by 20%.

2. International Consulting Firm (9 months): Helped a platform deepen its knowledge and expertise by delivering peer benchmarking and strategic analysis of global companies for client engagements.

3. HNI Family Office (2 years): Worked as an Equity Research Analyst, helping manage a portfolio of over USD 100 million while identifying new investment opportunities. Also assisted in acquiring two brands under the client’s alcoholic beverage business and worked on a few private placements. Additionally, I was entrusted with managing and making investment decisions on a capital allocation of approximately USD 0.5 million, giving me exposure to entrepreneurial risk-taking in a quasi-startup-like environment.

4. Investment Banking (Current – 1.5 years): Currently working at an impact-focused investment bank, helping companies with positive social and economic impact raise funds from global and Indian investors. During my tenure, my manager left the firm, and I took on additional responsibilities, stepping into a more active leadership role across the transactions I was involved in. As a result, my role evolved significantly into a client-facing investment banking position, involving direct interaction with clients, investors, and business development stakeholders, while also leading the preparation of transaction materials and fundraising collateral.

My current role is front-end/client-facing, where I interact daily with companies and funds to understand their investment theses and align both parties from a fundraising perspective.

Extracurricular Activities: Active member of the Leo Club and a community-driven organization focused on fostering positive social impact through regular community engagement initiatives and monthly events. Additionally, volunteer with a school for children with disabilities, contributing time and support to educational and developmental activities whenever opportunities arise.

You have a strong profile for ISB PGP. Your career progression from expert networks to PE consulting and now leadership advisory is differentiated and shows a clear upward trajectory. The promotions, client ownership, mentoring experience, and AI initiative with measurable impact are strong points to highlight.

Your non-engineering background also adds diversity to the ISB pool. The key areas to focus on will be your post-MBA goals, as consulting is a common goal and you will need a sharper narrative around why you want to transition.

Extracurriculars are decent; focus on depth and impact rather than just listing them. Aim for a strong GMAT/GRE (675+/327+) score to strengthen your application. Overall, with the right positioning, you have good potential for ISB.

All the Best!

You have a very likeable and strong profile for ISB

I don’t see your GMAT score in post so I am assuming that you are working on it.

You need to craft your goals very carefully to ensure that ISB PGP remains relevant for you in achieving the goals.

Target a GMAT score of 665 or more to be on comfortable side.

Hi Prakriti2600,

Given that you are a female candidate with experience in the Real Estate/Infrastructure sector, your profile brings in a good diversity angle. Your exposure to international projects and collaboration with cross-functional teams is also a positive, and you should focus on bringing out strong stories around impact, leadership, and problem-solving in your applications.

Your post-MBA goal of transitioning into consulting, especially within the Real Estate/Infrastructure space, appears logical. The key will be to clearly connect your technical experience with your future business-facing aspirations and demonstrate why an MBA is the right bridge.
A GMAT score of 675+ would make your profile highly competitive.

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

Hi Amalgum23 the C grade in 12th and the CGPA does hint a weak academic history. Try not to make your family business experience read like a filler after a weak academic history. That could be risky. The impact investing angle is potentially the strongest differentiator on your profile. Impact capital is a growing space with blended finance, development finance institutions and ESG-linked fundraising, and someone who has been working in this space with transaction exposure is more interesting to adCom than the hundredth generic IB analyst. Build your entire application around this professional high point. Give it around 75% realestate in the application and it should seem you are at the cusp of something meaningful that is bound to happen in this field with your skills. The CFA, and MCom is a strong sign of academic redemption. You did not mention your goals. A profile evaluation where I do not know your goals has very little meaning because the entirety of your work is evaluated in the context of your future plans.

The goals come first, and then you selectively bring out the strongest parts of your past experience that support that destination. Many applicants make the mistake of describing everything they have done without thinking about what the schools or recruiters should take away from it. For example, if someone is targeting PE operations or value creation roles, then they should emphasize experiences where they saw the inner workings of businesses, drove operational improvements, solved growth bottlenecks, or helped transform performance.
If someone is targeting M&A, corporate development, or transaction-oriented roles, then they should lean into experiences involving restructuring, insolvency, capital raising, acquisitions, or situations where they gained exposure to how transactions are evaluated and executed. Similarly, if someone wants to move into impact investing, they should highlight moments where they developed conviction around creating both financial and social value, for example you have worked through a family business that served municipal and construction projects that kept communities functioning. This ofcourse could be better backed by strong professional projects/internships/undertakings. Show how these experiences gradually shaped that perspective.

Feel free to reach out for a one to one discussion

Best wishes

Hi ishi1412

The PE consulting firm role is the most substantive of the three because it added commercial due diligence and value creation work on top of the executive search component.
Your move back to executive search is somewhat confusing to me. After 2.5 years at the PE consulting firm, where you were involved in CDD, market assessments etc., moving to a boutique executive search firm seems, at least on the surface, to be a narrowing of scope. You went from a role that touched investments, deal strategy, and organizational design to one that is primarily focused on leadership hiring for consulting firms. AM I MISSING SOME CONTEXT HERE?
It could be that you did not yet have a clear enough career direction to make a more ambitious move, or perhaps the new role sounded more senior than it actually is. The common thread across every single role is finding and engaging people with specific expertise or talent for other people's work.

The academic record is clean. The ECs are better than average.
The goals narrative is going to be the hardest part of the application to write, and for me it appears to be the weakest link. You want to transition into hands-on consulting, but you have likely spent your entire career working adjacent to consulting without actually doing consulting yourself. The adCom will ask if you have been observing consulting from the outside for several years, why have you not simply joined a consulting firm directly? Several Big 4 and boutique consulting firms hire laterally.
Focus on the specific practice areas you want to work in, and build a clear articulation of why your background in PE due diligence and executive talent strategy gives you a differentiated entry point into consulting.

One angle that may be worth thinking about is whether your strongest story is actually around leadership and organizational effectiveness (post MBA goals in HR). You have spent years seeing how firms identify expertise, build leadership teams, evaluate talent, and solve growth challenges through people. Most applicants talk about strategy from the business side. You have been observing strategy through the lens of talent and leadership decisions. There is a fairly differentiated post-MBA story there if you choose to develop it properly, because not many candidates can credibly speak about how leadership choices ultimately affect commercial outcomes, value creation, and organizational growth.
Feel free to reach out for a deeper advisory session.

Hi Prakriti2600 hope you are doing great. What were some of the high points in your work on international projects? What function did you lead within the scope of your qualifications as an architect, and how did you help lead those projects to success? Think of projects where you went beyond the scope of your work to lead teams.
It is very difficult to give you any meaningful advice based on vague descriptions. Feel free to reach out should you want to discuss your work projects with me indetail and get a deeper profile evaluation.

Best wishes

I am a believer that the GMAT alone is rarely a reason for rejection unless you come from an overly crowded pool, which you don't.
I also think that if you understand how debt capital works within the venture ecosystem like structuring loans to startups, assessing risk without the equity upside, and working with founders who are burning cash, that is very high-quality pre-MBA experience to bring into the MBA classroom. Why would ISB not want you? That differentiation is probably the strongest card in your profile.
So, perhaps the experience you applied with earlier was not as rich, or maybe you did not know what to talk about and how to talk about it in your application. Should you want a ding analysis, or simply want to discuss your updated profile, feel free to reach out. I have even helped third-time ISB applicants secure admits with 100% scholarship.

Amalgum23 reading your post, the real question isn't whether ISB will take a CFA with IB experience seriously, because they will. The sharper question is how you tell the story of four jobs in roughly five years without it reading as drift, and how the Class 12 C-grade and 3.12 undergrad CGPA get neutralised before adcom even reaches your essays.

On the academics: the CFA charter is your single best counterweight, and you should let it do that work without over-explaining. Don't apologise for the A-Levels or the BBA grades in the optional essay; instead, let the charter and any strong quant work on the GMAT or GRE speak for themselves. ISB reads quant capability holistically, and a charterholder clears that bar.

On the four roles: the risk is that they look like four unrelated chapters. They aren't. There is a clear arc from operations to research to deal execution, each one closer to the client and to capital decisions. Write that arc out in two sentences before you touch the essays. If you can articulate why each move made the next one possible, the narrative stops looking scattered and starts looking deliberate.

The one thing to do today: draft a single paragraph answering "why these four moves, in this order." If you can't write it cleanly, that's the gap to close before applications open.

Happy to look at the specifics if useful.
