Vinod is a very shrewd shopowner. He adjusted his electronic weighing scale in a typical way. Error percentage of his sale is directly proportional to the displayed weight of the commodity. But he gives a discount of 10% in every transaction. His weighing scale shows 5 kg for 4 kg. What is the actual progit % when the displayed weight is 10 kg?

A. 35%

Step I : Find constant k.
Error percentage of his sale is directly proportional to the displayed weight of the commodity - His weighing scale shows 5 kg for 4 kg
\(\frac{5-4}{4}*100=k*5......k=5\)

Step II : Find actual weight if the displayed weight is 10.
Error %\(=k*10=5*10=50\)%, so actual weight + 50 % of actual = 150% of actual = actual*\(\frac{ 150}{100}=10.......actual=\frac{20}{3}\)

Now let us find profit in terms of weight, which will be same as normal profit..
A discount of 10% on 10 kgs means that the weight \(\frac{20}{3}\) kg was sold as 9 kgs.
SO profit %=\(\frac{9-\frac{20}{3}}{\frac{20}{3}}*100=\frac{\frac{7}{3}}{\frac{20}{3}}*100=\frac{7}{20}*100=7*5=35\)%
