Thank you for checking in here! Some questions for you:
(1) What has been the biggest surprise (good and/or not so good) so far?
(2) What are other programs you considered?
(3) Describe your average study/project schedule outside of class time, e.g., meet with study group over Skype on Monday nights

(1) How quickly the social bonds formed and how much fun the whole experience is. The residential requirement on class weekends/weeks is really helpful. Everyone is stuck in the same place so we make the best of it. There are plenty of late nights and social events. For example, we have a themed formal event next Friday (our next class weekend) with spouses/SOs that’s ~100 people RSVPd for. There are also plenty of opportunities to travel. In fact, about 50 students leave for the British Virgin Islands (where one student calls home) either today or tomorrow. There’s also a ski trip in the works for sometime in February. It’s been a really amazing experience and quite different from the accounts I’ve heard from people in other EMBA programs.
(2) I looked into Booth and Kellogg as backups for R2 applications if I failed to earn admission to Wharton in R1. In R1, I only applied to Wharton.
(3) I was surprised by the workload. I’ve worked long hours in M&A and I’ve been through the CFA program so I though I would be well-prepared. I was certainly better-prepared than some peers but still underestimated it. It got especially rough around the midpoint of Term 2 (this past fall). I would say the heavy workloads come in waves. During those periods, I’ll spend in excess of 25 hours a week on schoolwork. But there are also weeks where I’ll only spend 5-10 hours preparing for the next class weekend. There are people that do less and are happy with their experience. I struggle to settle for “good enough” and it’s been an internal battle for me. I want to relieve some of the pressure on myself to do well so that I can relax a little more! Make sure you go in with eyes wide open. You’re attending school full-time while working full-time. It’s hard. I have a two year-old daughter and it really hurt me when I had to miss her first daycare “performance” because I had school that Friday.

Hey,

Congrats and thanks for touch basing with the forum and shared your experience. I am happy you found the program valuable, fun and rewarding.
We are still waiting to get the results for R1 application. The results should come out on 22nd. Is there a chance we hear back from the school before that? How did you got yours?

If you look back at last year, it appears admitted students reported a phone call a few days before the decision date.

Great, means receiving a phone call from them within next several day is a good sign. Looking forward to it.
Getting more anxious as we get closer to it :(

I did want to caution that NOT receiving a phone call before 1/22 is not necessarily a bad thing. According to past years' Wharton Executive MBA forums, many admits found out via the portal on 1/22 itself. I am anxious as well, but looks like we don't need to check our phones every five seconds for a call :-)

The decision result is just "Admitted" and "Denied" or there is a chance to be "Waitlisted" too?

There is the possibility of "Waitlisted" as well.

Is anyone going to the admissions event in SF today, i.e 01/16, from the Bay Area?

Yes, that is true as per the previous years' forums, but not every admit gets a call. The forums state that many admits found out on decision day itself. Hang tight, almost there! EDIT: As per previous years' forums, even if someone got a call, they are asked not to post about it on social media/online before 5 PM local (ET for Philadelphia, PT for San Francisco) on decision day, so doubtful you'll get much of a reply to your post. Good luck for your application!

John hits the nails on the head: even if admits get a call, they can’t post until Wed, Jan 22. Some really great admits don’t get a call. I am only guessing, but I think the calls have more to do with external factors, like competing admission offers, than anything else. Monday is a holiday. Just a couple more days for all of us anxiously waiting.

For those of you applying Round 2, you might want to leverage your efforts with other programs rather than sitting on your hands waiting for a result. If you're located in the Bay Area you might throw your hat in the ring for Haas EWMBA or maybe even Stanford MSX. If you're in New York, Columbia. CBS is cool with younger applicants. NYU part time app for Fall is now out and you can get in R1. And if you're located in Chicago you have lots of options with Booth EMBA, or the weekend program for Booth or Kellogg. Kellogg, Ross and MIT EMBA skew older, but if are 35+ go for it. The Kellogg weekend program has a wide geographical draw and is more open to younger applicants. There are plenty of choices to increase your exposure and your odds. I realize Wharton is your top choice but if you are ready to get started this year, consider leveraging your efforts.
