The challenge in using gmat club chat group ->
#1 We cannot explain the solution very easily (especially for Quant), like we can click and post picture via mobile on other messaging apps but that process is not smooth on gmat club chat groups
#2 the notification system of app seems off, if the notification system can be enhanced (on mobile application, as many users are using the mobile app)
#3 If we can also have the save OR bookmark feature of the particular chat message then that would be helpful as well

[Not related to this topic but important]
We should also have a filter of sorting practice questions by the "number of times bookmarked" as people tend to bookmark problems that are tough and it would be helpful to other people as well

3) Give option for private group (one of the admin will be a GMAT club member) intention of the private group will not be to stop information but stay with like-minded people what I feel is that it creates seriousness.
Again I do not know what other people think this is what I feel and I think you should do what most people think they want.

Hi, bond001

There is an option to create a private chat group. Click on the New button and you will see "Private" option. See the following screenshot. Did you try that?

I tried using the "Private" option but I think that option can be used only for private chat between two GMAT Club users, not more than that.

You are right. That "Private" button is used only for a private conversation between 2 users. I found the following option. Try "Hidden" or "By Request" option after clicking on "New" and then "Group". Let me know if that is what you are looking for.

Please add a feature to exit the group as well as a feature to delete a chat item visible in my list.

Small suggestion, verbal questions only - group - may have a resident verbal expert.

May be we can have a similar structure for chats as we have for forums. Some groups can be made permanent or standard. And then color coding the experts/moderators for chats of some groups.

For eg. S4G, elPatron for ISB chat group

So kind of like a private tutor that you can ask anything you want at any time of the day absolutely free? did I get your idea right? 😂

I didn't realize your contention , until you said it 😂😂 . But yeah... maybe some admin/moderator with a high score in the verbal section may be assigned to the group to help each member with his or her ( official guide ) queries. Even a point of view of the expert can help 🥲🥲. I don't know whether this is a viable option, but the inclusion of an admin/expert can definitely help the community!!

Also, to make them look cleaner, we can club the chats in groups/lists - "Schools - UK - LBS, Oxford... , US- Harvard... , GMAT - Verbal - SC.. , Q - PS, DS ... " - A bit more organized structure would help a bit more I guess.

General
1. Shift enter for line break
2. Merge chat and PM, leaving just the chat feature
3. I really don't know what are the red numbered notification telling me
4. Maybe posting a link for FAQ on the side? It's useful even if we will be just coping/pasting to the new guys
5. Making automatic groups based on test objectives and time frames and directing people to them based on a form

Mobile
1. The "new private message: none" is not user friendly
2. The topbar < makes me miss click a lot and is not needed at all
3. The Joining is a bit polluted by so many universities specific groups, maybe making categories?
4. Separate chat notifications from the rest, this might be the biggest thing and would help in all versions

Re: What features do you want to see in GMAT Club chat groups? [#permalink]
Thanks for starting this much needed post.
As you have recently revamped the UI, I have one suggestion- please optimize the code and make the website NON-responsive. When i scale the browser window to a smaller size (which i usually do, since i like to use half screen size for one thing and half for the other), the GC website starts to think am on a mobile device. The new paradigm of programming is "smart" non-responsive- using a mobile version for smaller devices. For example- consider facebook. The website does not give me a mobile experience even when I scale down my browser window. This aspect of the website needs some modernization.

To your other questions:
1) What do you like about chat groups?
- shows how many people are online. Dont know if others find it helpful, but it helps me decide when and where to post
- works just as expected for most use cases
2) What do you not like about chat groups?
- When someone quotes a message, clicking on that message should navigate to that message. (just as https://gmatclub.com/chat does)
- Would request you to not consider sharing https://gmatclub.com/chat group links as span or "promotions". Things evolve with time- and no one should expect people using GC all the while their MBA journey. People still have workarounds for connecting on https://gmatclub.com/chat- by sharing numbers and making some other person add them. So by not allowing the direct sharing of links, you are creating bottlenecks
- Private chat messages dont show a new message bubble. The chat window just displays "New Private CHAT messages: ABC" when ABC sends a private msg. This bug needs to be fix, and should be an easy one
3) What features do you want to see that will improve the experience of using chat groups?
- just answered above
- The mobile interface needs many improvements

* there is more to be added to the list. But lets see how you fix the above, and then I would share more. :p

https://gmatclub.com/forum/mchat.php?room_id=50050147

The URL is big!
- The /forum just makes the url longer
- mchat, why not just chat
- Can it be just id?
- Can 50050147 be reduced?

Example:
https://gmatclub.com/chat.php?id=550

So, the chat could be in the corner, and all of its notifications could be there!
1. I really find it confusing to have 2 (?) types of notification on the top bar
2. I don't see 2 tabs that easily

Quick solution: just get rid of the chat notifications right handle and show it on CHAT when hovered
