Let w be original average weight of the team having N members and A be the average weight of the the three new members.

From 1, (w*N+3*A)/(N+3) = w + 20 We cant solve for A till we know N and w, so insufficient

From 2, we just have information about the weight out of the system (205 Kg) and no information on w or N, so cant solve for A, insufficient.

Combining 1 and 2 , we get (w*N-205+3*A)/(N) = w+20 Again, we cant solve for A till we know w and N so insufficient again

Hi

The answer seems to be E. Are you sure it's D ?

Let x be mean of weights and n be the number of people.

=> x*n - Total Weight

From (1) we have :
x + 20 is new mean

(x + 20) (n + 3) - New total weight

$$[(x+20) (n + 3) - xn]/3$$

is average weight of 3 people

Not sufficient.

From (2) we have :
x*n - 205 + 3*w = 20*n

Not sufficient.

Even (1) and (2) are not enough, so E.

Could someone please opine on whether I'm correct ?

Regards,
Subhash
