What is the equation of the line that is perpendicular to the line y= 2x and and passes through points (a, b)

A) a= -b
B) a - b =1

Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient
Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient
BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

C.

from the stem, u get this equation: y = -1/2*x +p. u need to solve p.

from either 1) or 2), u have 3 variables with 2 equations, so u can't solve them.

together, u have 3 equations, and u can solve p. hence C.

Line perpendicular to y=2x will have slope of -1/2.
Eqn of such a line passing thru (a,b) is y-b=(-1/2)(x-a) which simplifies to x+2y-2a-b=0

We need to know values of a and b.
S1 and S2 are 2 simultanoeus eqns which solve for a and b.

Hence C.
