What is the value of (4a - 3b)/(a - 2b)? [#permalink]

(1) (3a - b)/(a - 2b) = 1

(2) a - b = 3

1) 3a-b = a - 2b

2a = -b

substitue and solve

sufficient

2) a-b =3

a= b+3

4b + 12 - 3b/ b+3 - 2b = b+12/3-b

insufficient

(A) imo

1) 3a-b = a - 2b

2a = b

4a-3b/a-2b = 4a- 6a/a-4a = -2a/-3a = 2/3

sufficient

a= b+3

4b + 12 - 3b/ b+3 - 2b = b+12/3-b

Hello

I also think answer would be A.

Just that in first statement,
3a-b = a-2b... so this will give us 2a = -b or b= -2a.

(1) (3a - b)/(a - 2b) = 1

(2) a - b = 3

Statement 1
(3a - b)=(a - 2b)
3a - a = b - 2b
2a = -b or b = -2a

substituting it

4a - 3(-2a) / a - 2(-2a)
= 4a + 6a / a + 4a
= 10a / 5a
= 2 (Sufficient)

Statement 2
a - b = 3
a = b + 3

substituting it

4(b + 3) / b + 3 - 2b
=4b + 12 / -b + 3 (Insufficient)

Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is how I solved it! Answer is A

Re: What is the value of (4a - 3b)/(a - 2b)? [#permalink]
Expanding (4a-3b) to (3a-b+a-2b) = (3a-b)+(a-2b)

St.1 states that (3a-b)=(a-2b)
Therefore, value of (4a-3b)/(a-2b) = 1+1 = 2. Sufficient

St.2 Insufficient. This equation cannot be manipulated to find the answer.

Hence, Ans A
