Statement 1) x^2 + x -6 = 0 => (x-2) * (x+3) = 0 so x can be 2 or -3. Not Sufficient.
Statement 2) x cannot be determined as value of y we don't know. Not Sufficient.

Combining the two statements, from Statment 2) we can see x has to be +ve. So using statement 1) x can take only one value = 2
Sufficient . option C)

The question is flawed. On the GMAT, two data sufficiency statements always provide TRUE information and these statements never contradict each other or the stem.

What is the value of x ?

(1) x^2+x+10=16 --> x=-3 or x=2. Not sufficient.

(2) x=4y^4+2y^2+3. Clearly insufficient, though from this statement we can get that since \(x=4y^4+2y^2+3=(nonnegative)+(nonnegative)+(positive)\), then the least value of x is 3. Not sufficient.

(1)+(2) The statements above contradict each other.

Ignore this question.
