I. Can be any number of combinations
II. Can also be any number of combinations.

together:
x^2+1 = x +1

x^2 - x = 0
x( x - 1) = 0
x= 0 or x = 1

should be E.

stat 1 and 2 by themselves are insuff. Together, you just have x^2-x=0 --> x(x-1)=0 ... two possible values for x, so even together the statements are insufficient.
