(1) |x| is always ≥ 0 as an absolute value is always ≥ 0. Therefore -|x| is always ≤ 0. In (1) we are told that |x| ≤ -|x| that can alway be true only if x=0. Example : if x=-3, |-3| ≥ -|-3|. If x=1, |1| ≥ -|1|. Therefore |0| ≤ y ≤ -|0|, which means y = 0. (1) Sufficient
(2) We are told that |y| ≥ -|y|, y could be any value. Not sufficient.
St1. |x|<=y<=-|x|. Is it possible that some Y is more than +ive X and less than -ive X or equal them in one time? No. The only possiblity is when X=0, so 0<=y<=0, y=0. SUFF
St2. |y| ≥ x ≥ -|y|. In this case some X is less than +ive Y and more than -ive Y or equal them. Infinite Ys can be suggested. INSUFF
