What schools offer strong programs in International Business

Personally I would take any top program over Thunderbird.

Overall reputation of schools have a much greater importance than any specialty major.

The best programs on that list are the European ones...if you want a US program then definitely dont worry about the rankings. If you want to work in Europe then going to one of the top schools over there obviously may make the most sense. If you want to work in Asia then a top program overthere like IIM, ISB, HKUST, Insead Singapore, or something like that makes lots of sense. The top US schools (M7 especially) travel well across boarders and will give lots of opportunities overseas.

However, if you want to work in the US with a global corporation then lots of top programs will open doors for you. Remember the brand is what will open doors for you.

why do you say that? does anyone know the approximate admissions criteria for Thunderbird (or how tough it is in relation to top 10 us?)

Rather than finding a school with strong reputation in International Business, perhaps you should also look at schools where plenty of companies (with international presence) come and recruit specifically for international assignments.

Many top US programs attract top international companies + more prestigious the program, better your chances of taking on international assignments.

To second what Riverripper said... If you are interested in working abroad. If you are targetting American companies, go to a US school. A lot of American multinational companies recruit from within the USA and then send their employees abroad (will probably have to work in the USA first before being transferred), the MBA culture is within the USA For Example, a lot of internship programs are only available in the USA and are not available outside because the USA is so MBA focused. Internships around the rest of the world (outside of Banking and Consulting) is rarer and only some multinationals do this (e.g. Johnson & Johnson).

In terms of finding work internationally straight out of an MBA, then you are better being based in the region in which you wish to find employment (outside of Consulting and Finance). Even the top US schools have a sphere of influence around the areas they are strongest and weaken when you travel further from this location based sphere (e.g. West coast schools predominantly place in the West Coast, etc.).
