i have it down to A and D, and will choose D.

I dont think 'he had' is needed in this sentence; 'he ran' is fine because it is the only action in the sentence and therefore the past perfect is unecessary.

It boils down to either C or D. They both look good to me. Which one is right or wrong?

Thats correct.

OA is D.


What wrong with C?
I think "when" in D indicates a progress, for example: when I came, she was doing something. So I choose C
