Premise: Romance novels were in backside of the store and accounted for 6% of total sales. After romance novels were moved close to the front with several books displayed sales of romance novels increased 14%-18% of total sales.
It points out that bringing the romance novels in front and displaying them has something related that increases novels’ sales.
Correct answer choice must not be able to explain logically how things can conclude further either breaks it OR does nothing based on argument premise.

A. customers who bought one romance novel are likely to come back for another. – CORRECT. Customers who bought one romance novel might come back for another even if they are located in backside of the store. Thus, it undermines the act that locating near to front caused the increase in sales. Therefore, the option breaks the logic of the argument and is correct.
B. customers are more likely to buy books located near the front of the bookstore than at the back. – WRONG. Customers buy books just because they are located near the bookstore front thus leading to increase in sales. So, books that have been shift to backside of store might have lost sales.
C. the display caught the interest of people who might not have otherwise purchased a romance novel. – WRONG. Customers even if not coming with intention to buy books might get attracted ater seeing romance novels on display thus buying them, leading to increase in sales.
D. customers believe that bookstores put their best books near the front of the store. – WRONG. A customer having a notion that only best books are displayed would buy them leading to increase in sales.
E. sales of romance novels may increase even more if the section were moved all the way to the front. – WRONG. Romance novels intrigued people to buy them just by being located closer to front of bookstore suggests that a location in front would definitely lead to further increase in sales.

IMO Answer (A).

Re: When romance novels were located in the back of the bookstore, they ac [#permalink]
When romance novels were located in the back of the bookstore, they accounted for approximately 6% of total sales. Since we moved romance novels close to the front of the store and put several books on display, sales of romance novels have increased to 14% to 18% of total sales.

All of the following conclusions can logically be drawn from this argument EXCEPT

A. customers who bought one romance novel are likely to come back for another. - it is possible that users came back after a purchase hence the increase in sales of romantic novels.
B. customers are more likely to buy books located near the front of the bookstore than at the back. - possible contributor to increase in sales
C. the display caught the interest of people who might not have otherwise purchased a romance novel. - possible contributor to increase in sales
D. customers believe that bookstores put their best books near the front of the store. - possible contributor to increase in sales
E. sales of romance novels may increase even more if the section were moved all the way to the front. - passage does not imply that moving even further would increase the sales, it only talks about what happened when books were moved forward, cannot predict how sales would look like if books are moved even further.

Let jot down the points:
Rbooks @ back->6% of TS
Rbooks @ front+display->increased 14%*18% of TS

A. customers who bought one romance novel are likely to come back for another. - CORRECT. Nothing can be inferred from the passage regarding customers likely to comeback for another book. They may or may not.
B. customers are more likely to buy books located near the front of the bookstore than at the back.-conclusion possible since sales increased when books were kept in front.
C. the display caught the interest of people who might not have otherwise purchased a romance novel.-conclusion possible as several books were displayed which attracted customers.
D. customers believe that bookstores put their best books near the front of the store.- and because of which customers could find and buy their favorite ones
E. sales of romance novels may increase even more if the section were moved all the way to the front -possible conclusion to increase more sales.

Re: When romance novels were located in the back of the bookstore, they ac [#permalink]
A is the answer because if a customer bought a novel even from the back of bookstore, it means they know where it is located in the bookstore, hence can always come back to buy another one irrespective of where the novel is located. This option cannot be a conclusion that can be drawn from the argument presented in the question stem.

B can be a conclusion that can be drawn from the argument presented because from the question stem moving the novels close to the front saw an increase in the sales of novels.

C is also correct. Someone might enter the shop with an intention to buy a different book but when the romance novels catch their attention, they can buy it in addition. If the romance novels were located at the back, they will not catch the attention of such customers.

D can also be a conclusion because books located near the front are more likely to be noticed by customers. This can explain the increase in sale of romance novels and overall sale of books in the bookstore.

E can also be a conclusion because if relocating the romance novels closer to the front resulted in increased purchases of such novels, then relocating them to the front can further increase sales since they will be more visible.

- We can't link this with increase in sale as this can't be inferred from the statement above .
B. customers are more likely to buy books located near the front of the bookstore than at the back. - mentioned in lines ..Since we moved romance novels close to the front of the store
C. the display caught the interest of people who might not have otherwise purchased a romance novel.-lines indicate that as it was in back it went unnoticed ... Since we moved romance novels close to the front of the store sales increased .
D. customers believe that bookstores put their best books near the front of the store.- customers saw the books and with this belief they bought the books which lead an increase .
E. sales of romance novels may increase even more if the section were moved all the way to the front. - this is perception of the store as sales increased after front display they are assuming that based on this sales boost they might increase the sale by bringing it to more front .

ARGUMENT
sales of r-novels relocated from the back to the front of the store, with a couple on display, have increased significantly.

(B) logically we can conclude this, because sales r-novels near the front increased more than those in the back;
(C) logically we can conclude this, since some r-novels were on display and sales increased;
(D) logically we can conclude this, since sales of r-novels increased;
(E) logically we can conclude this, since sales increased after moving novels further;

Answer (A): there is no information in the stem to support this conclusion, maybe this happened, but maybe it didn't!

IMO it's A because even if the sales increased we cannot say that customers will return to buy again.

Changing the location of the romance novels close to the front and putting books on display, sales of romance novels has increased. What can be followed from these statements.

All of the following conclusions can logically be drawn from this argument EXCEPT

A. customers who bought one romance novel are likely to come back for another.
store will have additional sales. this may or may not be true. changing the location will not change customers perspective towards the novel and customer will return to buy one more.

B. customers are more likely to buy books located near the front of the bookstore than at the back.
true based on the given information about changing the location has amounted to increase

C. the display caught the interest of people who might not have otherwise purchased a romance novel.
true based on the given information about putting several books on display

D. customers believe that bookstores put their best books near the front of the store.
since just changing the location, sales has increased and not by adding new books, this can be the perception of customers to buy the books kept near the front of the store

E. sales of romance novels may increase even more if the section were moved all the way to the front.
true based on the given information about changing the location has amounted to increase

A is the answer!

E. sales of romance novels may increase even more if the section were moved all the way to the front.

Official Explantion

Correct Answer: A

The significant increase in sales after the relocation of the books indicates that customers are more likely to buy books at the front of the store (choice b) and that the display may have caught the interest of people who might not otherwise purchase a romance novel (choice c). It is also logical to conclude that sales would further increase if the books were moved even farther toward the front of the store (choice e). Choices b and e and the increase in sales all suggest that customers believe the best books are near the front of the store (choice d). The only conclusion that cannot logically be drawn from this scenario is that customers will come back to purchase more romance novels (choice a). The data does not indicate repeat purchases for customers.

Why cannot we think that the sales are increasing because the customers are likely to come back and purchase another romance novel? In this case, why cannot A be the correct answer?

Re: When romance novels were located in the back of the bookstore, they ac [#permalink]
A. customers who bought one romance novel are likely to come back for another.
- This conclusion makes an assumption about customer behavior, specifically that those who purchased one romance novel are likely to return for another purchase. However, the argument doesn't provide direct evidence or data about customer behavior or repeat purchases. The increase in sales could be influenced by various factors, such as attracting new customers or one-time buyers, and it may or may not indicate repeat purchases. Therefore, conclusion (A) cannot be directly inferred from the information provided in the argument.

B. customers are more likely to buy books located near the front of the bookstore than at the back.
- This conclusion can be logically drawn from the argument because it suggests that the proximity of books to the front of the store has a positive impact on sales.

C. the display caught the interest of people who might not have otherwise purchased a romance novel.
- This conclusion can be logically drawn from the argument because it suggests that the display attracted new customers or customers who might not have considered buying romance novels before.

D. customers believe that bookstores put their best books near the front of the store.
- This conclusion can be inferred from the argument, as the placement of romance novels near the front and their increased sales imply that customers associate front-of-store placement with desirable books.

E. sales of romance novels may increase even more if the section were moved all the way to the front.
- This conclusion can be logically drawn from the argument because it suggests that moving the romance novels even closer to the front might lead to further sales increases.

In summary, conclusion (A) is the exception because it makes an assumption about customer behavior that cannot be directly inferred from the information provided in the argument, while the other conclusions can be logically drawn or inferred based on the argument's content.
