(A) as both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence take their places in the world arsenal

(B) as both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence took their places in the world arsenal

(C) as the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence both take their place in the world arsenal

(D) as a result of the fact that both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence took their respective places in the world arsenal

(E) as a consequence of the fact that both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence take their places in the world arsenal

i was confused between B and D, i first thought D is wordy, so eliminate D, but the changed mind thinking that physical power of atom and pschologcia power, cannot be referred directly, so it has to be fact, choose D -incorrectly

Bunuel can you please put more light on B and D answer choice

(A) as both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence take their places in the world arsenal (present tense is preferred )

(B) as both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence took their places in the world arsenal ( past tense shows that both X and Y doesn't have its effect now)

(C) as the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence both take their place in the world arsenal (Correct use is both X and Y)

(D) as a result of the fact that both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence took their respective places in the world arsenal (past tense and as a result of the fact is not required)

(E) as a consequence of the fact that both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence take their places in the world arsenal(as a consequence of the fact is not required)

I will go with choice A

Thanks

(A) as both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence take their places in the world arsenal

(B) as both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence took their places in the world arsenal

(C) as the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence both take their place in the world arsenal

(D) as a result of the fact that both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence took their respective places in the world arsenal

(E) as a consequence of the fact that both the physical power of the atom and the psychological power of deterrence take their places in the world arsenal

KAPLAN OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

When you scan the answer choices, you can see that the phrases “as a result of the fact” in (D) and “as a consequence of the fact”in (E) are unnecessary:elim- inate the two longest answer choices. Since the sen- tence describes events that took place in the past, “take”in (A) and (C) is wrong;“took”in (B) is right.
