A. Whereas heat transferred between the ocean and the atmosphere occurs more rapidly when the ocean is warmer than the air, it is slow when the ocean is colder.
B. Unlike the slow process of heat transfer between the ocean and the atmosphere when the ocean is colder than the air, heat transfers more rapidly when the ocean is warmer.
C. The transfer of heat between the ocean and the atmosphere is slow when the ocean is colder than the air and more rapid when the ocean is warmer.
D. Transferring heat between the ocean and the atmosphere occurs slowly when the ocean is colder than the air and more rapidly when it is warmer.
E. When the ocean is colder than the atmosphere, heat transferred between them occurs slowly, unlike the more rapid transfer occurring when the ocean is warmer.

C is concise and addresses the comparison issues correctly.

A. Whereas heat transferred between the ocean and the atmosphere occurs more rapidly when the ocean is warmer than the air, it is slow when the ocean is colder. (here it is referring to?)
B. Unlike the slow process of heat transfer between the ocean and the atmosphere when the ocean is colder than the air, heat transfers more rapidly when the ocean is warmer. (Unlike is used to compare two nouns/ pronouns not a clause)
C. The transfer of heat between the ocean and the atmosphere is slow when the ocean is colder than the air and more rapid when the ocean is warmer.
D. Transferring heat between the ocean and the atmosphere occurs slowly when the ocean is colder than the air and more rapidly when it is warmer.

+1 for C. What is OA for this one?

It is time to let the cat out and the OA for this well discussed GPREP SC is C, not necessarily because it is the best among the lot but because the rest suffer from unacceptable errors, which every one has shred to pieces. Even in C, one might say, that the choice could have a contrasting conjunction such as but in the place of and, since there are two diametrically opposite situations and the text means to bring out the contrast outcome of both the polarized contexts. All the same, no point harping on it and C is still the best.

i pick C. the sentence describes the speed of transferring heat between between the ocean and the atmosphere, when the ocean is warm or cold. and C explain the perfect meaning in my point of view. correct me if i am wrong

Taking a second look at C, is the rate of heat transfer process slow or is the occurrence of the process slow when ocean is colder?? Although C is the most concise, it clearly changes the meaning.

D: "Transferring heat" sounds awkward but D is the better choice here. "more rapidly when it is warmer", "it" here cannot refer to air as it is the subject referring back to Ocean.

Whereas heat transferred between the ocean and the atmosphere occurs more rapidly when the ocean is warmer than the air, it is slow when the ocean is colder.

A. Whereas heat transferred between the ocean and the atmosphere occurs more rapidly when the ocean is warmer than the air, it is slow when the ocean is colder. Tense mismatch
B. Unlike the slow process of heat transfer between the ocean and the atmosphere when the ocean is colder than the air, heat transfers more rapidly when the ocean is warmer. invalid comparison between process and heat transfer
C. The transfer of heat between the ocean and the atmosphere is slow when the ocean is colder than the air and more rapid when the ocean is warmer.Grammatically correct
D. Transferring heat between the ocean and the atmosphere occurs slowly when the ocean is colder than the air and more rapidly when it is warmer. Incorrect grammar usage. It sounds as if someone is transferring heat.
E. When the ocean is colder than the atmosphere, heat transferred between them occurs slowly, unlike the more rapid transfer occurring when the ocean is warmer. Trasnferred says a thing of past as if it will never happen again. Its a continuous process and should be in present tense

Choose C because...
"C. The transfer of heat between the ocean and the atmosphere is slow when the ocean is colder than the air and more rapid when the ocean is warmer."

answer choice has 2 markers "AND" and "THAN"

"THAN" has to present comparison: "when the ocean is colder than the air "
so we are comparing colder ocean floor with colder air. Correct.

"AND" has to have [X] and [Y] structure.
"The transfer of heat between the ocean and the atmosphere

"The transfer of heat between the ocean and the atmosphere is slow when the ocean is colder than the air and more rapid when the ocean is warmer."

My take will be C because its better to other options.
However, is "More Rapid" correct here? is "More" actually required?

why d is wrong

"it" in d can be correct because "it" appear in parallel structure.

As per me, there are two issues with this option:
Firstly,"Transfering heat" is wrong-it seems as an intended activity.
Secondly, "it" is ambiguous.(can refer to air)
