We will consider 2 separate cases: when (5b - 7) is positive and when (5b - 7) is negative.

Case 1: (5b - 7) is positive:

5b - 7 < 1

5b < 8

b < 8/5

Case 2: (5b - 7) is negative:

-(5b - 7) < 1

-5b + 7 < 1

-5b < -6

b > 6/5

Thus, 6/5 < b < 8/5, or 1.2 < b < 1.6. Since 3/2 = 1.5, b could be 3/2.

Answer: B

Plug in the values and check a 10 sec solution..

Only (B) holds true...

\(|5b – 7| < 1\)

Or, \(|5*\frac{3}{2} – 7| < 1\)

Or, \(|\frac{15}{2} – 7| < 1\)

Or, \(|7.5 – 7| < 1\)

Or, \(| 0.5 | < 1\)

Hence, correct answer will be (B)

mod(5b-7) <1
=>-1<5b-7<1
=>6<5b<8
=>1.2<b<1.6

Ans is (B) which is 1.5

|5b -7| < 1
-1 < (5b-7) < 1 ; add +7
6 < 5b < 8 ; divide by 5
6/5 < b < 8/5

No need to compute anything, B must be the answer.

Using POE:

We can easily eliminate the choices A, D, and E as they will always yield value more than 1.

C. 8/5

|5*8/5 – 7| < 1 & 1 = 1 eliminate

Hence (B)
