As the calculation we're asked to do is relatively straightforward, we'll just do it.
This is a Precise approach.

1/5 * 1/0.004 = 1/(5*0.004) = 1/0.02 = 50/1 = 50

(B) is our answer.

Which of the following is equal to 1/5 of the reciprocal of 0.004 perc [#permalink]
Did I miss something?

0.004=4/1000 but 0.004%=4/1000/100

Therefore I came up to answer D
Can someone explain Where I went wrong? I

Hey LevanKhukhunashvili,
Your approach is correct.
(4/1000)/100 = \(\frac{4}{100000}\)

Hence, reciprocal = \(\frac{100000}{4}\) = 25000

\(\frac{1}{5}\) of the reciprocal value = \(\frac{1}{5}\) * 25000 = 5000

A. 0.5
B. 50
C. 500
D. 5,000
E. 50,000

Note: 0.004 percent

Given,

0.004 %
=0.004 / 100
= 0.00004

0.00004 = 4 / 100000

Reciprocal of 4 / 100000

= 100000 / 4
=25000

1/5 of 25000
=5000

Thus the best answer is D.

The difficulty level of a question is calculated automatically based on the timer stats from the users which attempted the question. So our stats say that it's 700 level.

Thank you!
Another question, if i may; So as more people get the correct answer, the difficulty level goes down? And is time taken also factored into the difficulty level?

1/5 of the reciprocal of 0.004 percent is:

1/5 x 1/(0.004/100) = 1/5 x 100/0.004 = 100/0.02 = 100/(2/100) = 10,000/2 = 5,000

Bunuel

as the percent of correct attempts increases or decreases decides the difficulty, at what point should one measure the true difficulty of the question? or is it based on one's individual ability?

The difficulty tag shows the level of the question now. If after some time due to the attempts the difficulty changes the tag will change accordingly.

First lets find the reciprocal of 0.004:

1/(0.004/100) = 1/(4/100,000) = 100,000/4

Now lets multiply by 1/5:

1/5 * 100,000/4 = 20,000 / 4 = 5,000
