A certain cultivated herb is one of a group of closely related plants that thrive in soil with high concentrations of metals that are toxic to most other plants. Agronomists studying the herb have discovered that it produces large amounts of histidine, an amino acid that, in test-tube solutions, renders these metals chemically inert. I'm going with c too.

I don;t think its D because the stimulus does not say anything about the effect of these amino acids on soil.

OK. The arg says that histine allows the plant to grow in toxic soil. This would be strengthened if the others plants of the group produce also hisitine. If the the other plants of the group dont't produce H, then there is another factor explaining this phenomenon and that wd weaken.

D: cultivation of the herb in soil with high concentrations of the metals will, over an extended period, make the soil suitable for plants to which the metals are toxic
NOK: there is no reference to Histine, which is the main point of the argument. Here, something else could make the soil suitable.

bit late but D it is.

C talks about the group that is irrelevant to hypothesis. Moreover,

'renders these metals chemically inert. Possibly, therefore, the herbâ€™s high histidine production is what allows it to grow in metal-rich soils'

since metals are made chemically inert. this can be easily proved if we have plants that react to metals grow in presense of metals.
