Why GMAC keeps the IR section, when they don't take the scores in to consideration.
I can understand why AWA, because AWA can help B-Schools to verify the genuineness of the admission essays. But how IR section helps anyone?

The reason business schools are not using IR yet is because it is quite new. However if you totally flunk the IR section, I am sure admissions will view that as a red flag.

It will be another year or two until the IR scores kick in. GMAC is collecting data right now.... they are about data. That's their mission in life :-)

They will try to establish a correlation between IR, Grad School GPA, Employability, and whatever else they can. Right now the strongest correlation they have is the relationship between undergrad and grad GPA's (even more so than the GMAT), which is understandable.

P.S. Grad school GPA is a measure of Success in BSchool. (it is not getting a job, or salary level but rather grades that determine if you were a success.

So what will be your suggestion should we focus on IR section, or just get the basic understanding of format, try few question and then leave it for the D-day.

Just as Domitron said, you want to get an OK score so spend no more than 2-3 days prepping for it UNLESS you are planning to use the score for the 2015 Application Season
