B
The number of xyz - singular.
A number of xyz - plural

A- out of above reasons
B - will keep.. no error so far
C- steadily increasing ...have been the number of planets
Awkward construction
D- better imaging techniques ..have increased the discovery of planets.
But we intent to say .

Better used techniques and... has increased the number of planets discovered.
Changed meaning..incorrect
E- subject verb Agreement error
The number of planets...are increasing..
So B is the answer
