Would scoring high on my GMAT help me land an Investment Banking Analyst Job?

I don't have much experience in finance. I work at NY Life, currently, but I feel that hurt my chances of landing a respectable Investment Banking job.

The thing with the GMAT is.. A low one can hurt you... But a high one need not necessarily help you.... And that applies wherever the GMAT is a concern..

Thanks for your input. Well, considering that I am applying for jobs, it seems like a low risk, high reward. If I get a 700+ score I can put it on my resume and people may take me more seriously. If I plan on going to get an MBA, I should be taking it any how. I just want some extra motivation, I guess.

Dont get me wrong... If all other parts of your application are good, the GMAT CAN play a part in scholarship considerations and IB jobs probably have an unofficial cut-off at 720.. So there is your motivation to score well... I'm just sayin that if the other parts of the application are not good, even a 770 GMAT cannot do much to help...

Even coming out of business school looking for Associate positions I have been told that bulge bracket banks and the MBB recruiting firms want to see your GMAT score on your resume.

I've heard of a potential 700 cutoff (even that I'm not sure I believe 100%), but never a 720.

If you've jumped through all the networking hoops and played the game correctly, a few points on your GMAT isn't going to be a deciding factor.
