Hi everyone

After three weeks of studying, I wrote my GMAT today. I scored a 530 with a 42Q and 21V ... Not impressed with myself in verbal and my quantative scores are higher than my usual practice writes.

Infact, I thought I had done terrible in quantative and the scores turned out to be more positive. Can anyone give me any advice as to how to improve on verbal. My defeat seems ot be in sentence correction and reading comprehension.

Also, what real chacne do i have of entering a good bshool like Richard Ivey? ... anyone know the ranges of Ivey in Ontario?

Thank a lot for you feedback!

First off... its good that you have gone through the GMAT... so you know what to expect.

Secondly, it depends on how long and what type of effort you put in. It makes a big difference if you spent 5 days and got 530 or spent 2 months and got 530.

Specifically to SC/RC/CR I would (as would many others on the board) that you refer OG11 + Manhattan GMAT Sentence correction book. That is one of the best prep books which will give you a basic ground work of SC.

Get back with more information and people will be happy to comment on your effort and plans.

Good luck/.

Thank you for your information. Realistically I had spent a month and usually just doing kaplan questions and i think my problem is rather than trying to figure out where I went wrong I kept trying to do more questions and hoping I'd get better. I was hoping to start for the Oct 06 session but I guess the bschool will not consider with such a low score

I was just using Kaplan, I have just ordered the OG 11 and hopefully that wil help for the rewrite.

Any thoughts?

As you pointed out, doing more and more questions without understanding why you made a mistake in the first place is of no use.

You should spent as much (or more) time on analyzing your correct/incorrect answers than the actual times it takes to solve the questions. Once you get into the mode of knowing your weaknesses and mistakes, you have a much better chance of improving quickly.
As for Kaplan, it is not the best one out there; by most suggestions, OG11 + OG Verbal Review + MGMAT is the best combination when it comes to verbal.

Realistically, I put in about 4 hours a day including weekends just going through practice sets of questions through Kaplan. I am starting to realize, Kaplan isn't the best bang for their buck so I ordered OG 11.

I am going to redo the test Jan next and reapply for May/Sep 07!

thanks
