Zelda: Dr. Ladlow, a research psychologist, has convincingly demonstrated that his theory about the determinants of rat behavior generates consistently accurate predictions about how rats will perform in a maze. On the basis of this evidence, Dr. Ladlow has claimed that his theory is irrefutably correct.
Anson: Then Dr. Ladlow is not a responsible psychologist, Dr. Ladlow¡¯s evidence does not conclusively prove that his theory is correct. Responsible psychologists always accept the possibility that new evidence will show that their theories are incorrect.

101. Anson bases his conclusion about Dr. Ladlow on which one of the following?

A. an attack on Dr. Ladlow¡¯s character
B. the application of a general principle
C. the use of an ambiguous term
D. the discrediting of facts
E. the rejectiion of a theoretical explanation

I pick A. About the general principle option, I am not sure about it because we do not know what it is, we would only be assuming it.
What is the source and OA of this question?

I say B. Ladlow fails to apply the principle that new evidence should always be considered.

A: not attacking his character, but rather his lack of accepting new evidence.
C: no ambiguous term is introduced.
D: He does not refute any of Ladlow's facts
E: Does not reject his theoretical explanation.

IMO B.
A is ruled out as it is not an attack on the persons character but rather his professional attitude.

There isn't any use of an ambiguous term so eliminate "c".
Anson never discredited the facts so eliminate "d".
Anson never rejected the theoretical explanation (it was never explained anyway) so eliminate "e"
A not sure since the claim of "not a responsible psychologist" could be an attack on character but seems more likely on an attack on his professional nature (not character)

The application of a general principal was that psychologist always accept the possibility of being wrong.

I go with B.

Why can't it be A?

When we talk of character ...will we consider only personal traits excluding professional competence?
