This review is for BYU
Program Full Time MBA
Class of 2016
I had a wife and 2 kids BYU offered the family support system that I needed for my family. It wasn't a I leave the house in the morning and come home to my wife screaming at the kids, she had group activities that she went to and was very involved.
Career services was helpful, to the extent of how you would view somebody in that role. Are they your mom or another tool in your tool belt to help you get a career lined up. That being said, I believe they could have offered students a little more transparency, in terms of companies coming to campus.
The student body was great, they are lifelong friends of mine now and the experiences and opportunities afforded me are totally invaluable. However the curriculum needs to be changed somewhat, from a professor perspective. For example, I work in strategic sourcing now and nothing that I learned in my strategic sourcing class at the MBA program prepared me for what I am doing. That being said, I know I am different, I approach problems differently now, so from that perspective the program was invaluable.
Provo prides itself in being the "silicon slopes" because of all the tech startups there but there is not really any emphasis to learn and type of data modeling or data analysis, which many MBA students overlook for not wanting to be the "excel monkey" but I think these skills are necessary to have that immediate impact. Make it a goal to learn and focus on different types of data analysis.
Overall great experience that changed my life for the better!
